Dry Verge Caps over Wet Verge

This is my preference but a lot so far prefer these dry systems or in this case, using the caps to hide the problem!

Dry Verge Caps over Wet Verge

We have some missing mortar one one of our Verges. I am looking at having it re-pointed and one suggestion from a small roofing company was to attach a dry verge. When questioned if this would entail removing the old mortar they said it would not be removed. I always thought dry verges need...

    Garage Door Frame, Missing Bolts?

Whilst lubricating our garage door I have noticed that the bolts holding the door frame to the timber frame are not through the brackets. Guessing due to the bracket not ligning up the with timber (why not use different brackets?). I also noticed there are no bolts in the floor though it looks...

    Weeping Radiator Tails

Thank you for the replies. Two more have corrosion marks but were dry when cold so hopefully it is just those 3 but when I get those done I'm going to have the others checked too anyway.

    Weeping Radiator Tails

I have noticed over the past few months my boiler pressure dropping a tiny amount of 0.1 bar but were unable to find any visible leaks. This seemed to coincide with drops in temperature, and after reading similar issues checked all radiator tails and noticed 3 are weeping in the same place on...

Compression Fitting leaking - Triton Shower Install

Thank you. I gave it a good clean and tried again and it has sealed without needing any ptfe, it's stayed dry so far. Wonder if there was a bit of grit on the olive.

Compression Fitting leaking - Triton Shower Install

Hi, I have replaced my triton shower and as per instructions not used any jointing compound. The fitting on the shower is leaking slowly. What are my options, is ptfe a no go either?

New EICR before installing new CU

I've managed to get a couple more quotes. One has really stood out and he even noticed the distance to the gas pipe. I've only spoken over email sending photos and measurements and they're not the cheapest but they seem very competent.

New EICR before installing new CU

It's understandable that he would want to test himself but he was a little bit pushy that the electrician who did the EICR should also do the remedial work. I had fully intended to use Sparky 1 for the new CU but I had doubts about his testing and he came back with a high quote weeks later with...

New EICR before installing new CU

Thank you for replying, it did strike me as odd that he wanted to do his own EICR first. My understanding is that they could follow the recomendations made in the EICR and that they would have to test and certify the new CU after installation anyway?

New EICR before installing new CU

I had an EICR earlier this year and a few items were highlighted as C2; No RCD on Circuits, CPC too small, CU made form flamable materials, and no mains smoke detection. I have had another electrician since round to quote who stated he would need to perform another EICR before replacing the CU...

Flexible condensate pipe, water collecting in low point

The original pipe was fitted before the kitchen was installed going behind the cabinets. I can't see an easy way to get a new pipe in there in one piece. I think the best bet is to also add some more clips and supports to remove any dips and improve flow.

Flexible condensate pipe, water collecting in low point

It's a boiler not AC so I'm not sure of the Legionella risk. My main concern would be an air lock forming preventing the siphone from emptying.

Flexible condensate pipe, water collecting in low point

A plumber replaced our internal condensate pipe with a flexible pipe due to a leak. I've noticed that water is collecting at a low point in the pipe under the cupboards. I thought it was supposed to be on a constant decline to prevent this as sedement will eventually build up?

Pre-Cast Flue - Crack up wall

We have a pre-cast flue for a now removed gas fire. There is a crack that runs up the length of the flue on the left side. It starts at the top of the old fireplace hole and continues upstairs ending at the ceiling. Is this a sign of a more serious issue or just normal expansion/ contraction...

    New Consumer Unit Quote

Thank you for the detailed reply. We've had an EICR done, it took the electrician around 2 hours. I believe the biggest culprits for earth leakage are freezers, washers, dishwashers, and kettles.

    New Consumer Unit Quote

Isn't that what they would mean by certificate on completion? The elctrician is registered with NAPIT.

    New Consumer Unit Quote

The quote is for a new consumer unit replacement, main earthing CPC, upgrade incoming tails and certificate on completion.
