    Painting Stairs

thanks for the reply. Is Dulux Trade High Gloss different from just the ordinary Dulux Gloss? ie, what makes it more suitable for this task? It's just that I have tonnes of the ordinary left over from previous decorating so I would prefer to use that _if_ it won't make such a big...

    Painting Stairs

Hi A while back I removed the carpet from my stair case and now I wish to paint the stairs (I'm aware it's going to be noisy without carpet but the wife's not bothered about that!). I was planning to gently sand down the treads and risers to remove all the dirt and then paint. I wanted...

Laying wall tiles on bathroom floor

I laid the same wall tiles both on the wall and floor in my bathroom. The tiles on the floor are fine (ie, not too slippery). It might depend on the exact type of tile as the ones I have are not the really shiny ones (ones with a shiny glaze). Also, I think you can buy some clear liquid stuff...

Plasterer left 2 inch gap at bottom of wall for skirting...

you can fill it with anything probably that sets hard. some sand and cement or some extra tile adhesive... I would certainly fill with something though as it will be easier when it comes to grouting. sanjay

    Installing Telephone Extension

one of the reasons for connecting the new cable via the BT plastic box instead of the internal master socket was that I could remove the old master socket that is no longer in use and use the newly installed upstairs socket as the master. Thanks for all you advice. I think it may be easier to...

    Installing Telephone Extension

The point of the exercise was not to use the current socket because the wife wants to put a bookcase infront of it (so that it is as flush to the wall as I can get it. Also, I have ADSL on the same line (via wireless router) so i'm not sure whether a socket extender would work with that. One...

    Installing Telephone Extension

I apologise if this is the incorrect forum but it's unclear to me where else it should be posted. Anyway, my main telephone socket comes into the house at the side directly into my downstairs landing. On the outside of the relevant wall there is a small grey BT box. I assume this is normal...

    Tiling round/behind wall mounted basin

I would tile first, then install basin then add a bead of sealant on the back edge and down the side of the basin where it comes into contact with the tiles. I think that would give you a much better finish then the faffing involved in cutting tiles around something. sanjay

    Weedkilling driveways

do you know the name of any "strong synthetic weedkillers" that you have experience with? I did a google search on "Pathclear" and read some reviews on it. The general impression was that it was pretty bad and one had to apply it several times... sanjay

how do I get old sealant and grout off my bath?

I've used silicon eater before. It's ok, but you may have to apply iy numerous times to get rid of all the silicon. sanjay

    Weedkilling driveways

I have a long gravel driveway which never had any weedprotection put down under the gravel. Every year I get hundreds of weeds growing though. I realise I can get off the shelf weedkiller for this (path clear or something) but is there something out there that is better than this suff. Ideally I...

    Trade Paints

So basically what ch427 is saying is that trade paint works out cheaper than non-trade because you can get away with a single coat? Do the professionals generally need to water down trade paints? If so, by what ratio? thanks sanjay

    Trade Paints

I think i've heard it mentioned on this forum that Dulux trade paints are far superior to the equivalent non trade versions you can buy from places like B&Q in terms of coverage and look. My question is why one would then choose to ues the non trade versions... Is there some advantage to the...

    painting textured artex celing

Another question, do you recommend medium pile roller for walls and long pile roller for textured celings (to get into the grooves)? I see screwfix do some Harris sleeves (medium and long pile)? are they considered any good in the trade? thanks sanjay

    painting textured artex celing

I will probably go for white on the celing and coving because the whole house is white. The condition of the celing/coving is pretty good really so I don't need to hide any imperfections (+ you wouldn't notice them on the textured celing anyway). I may change the colour of the walls in the...

    painting textured artex celing

thanks guys :). I'll probably just go with 2 coats of matt emulsion which should be easy given that the walls are also white matt emulsion. sanjay

    painting textured artex celing

I have a textured artex celing and coving which is already painted in some sort of shiny white paint (i'm guessing it's vinyl silk) as the light really reflects off it. I wish to repaint both the celing and coving. I want more of a dulled look so thought I may go for vinyl matt or vinyl...

    Wood Flooring Questions

I haven't actually bought the wood yet. I kept getting different advice about whether a solid wood floor could be floated so I thought I would ask for clarification. I will probably end up going for an engineered floor. cheers sanjay

Repairing wall after removing skirting boards

If the gap will be covered entirely by new skirting, why don't you simply fill it with sand/cement? sanjay
