Is the kitchen waste outlet pipe too high?

Indeed, thay seems to be the case. I have installed the Mcalpine, but you're right, it hasn't done much to the height difference. At least the pipes are clean for the time being (they were very gunked up), but the waste pipe will need lowering in due course. I'm surprised there isn't a trap...

Is the kitchen waste outlet pipe too high?

Thanks everyone, hugely helpful. I bought a McAlpine kit this afternoon so will look to clean it up over the weekend. oldbutnotdead, the pipe in the top left of the pic is coming from the half bowl of the one and a half bowl sink. PS I don't think it was a DIY job, but I might be wrong.

Is the kitchen waste outlet pipe too high?

Hi, I've just moved onto a new place and the wager drainage is very slow. Underneath the sink, it looks like the water has to push a lot of water above it to get out. It goes down from the sink, then into a u bend before going upwards through a flexible pipe to the outside. Is this too far to...

    Oven element wire

Yes, I wondered the same. I binned it so can't check I'm afraid. I couldn't see an obvious bulge back then, but it had tripped the electrics and was very old, and given the rest of the oven worked, I figured it was the element itself, but may have just been the wiring.

    Oven element wire

You caught me just in time! What is the problem with the insulated ones? I shall get some non insulated ones and replace the others too as all looking a bit ropey.

    Oven element wire

Thanks for the quick reply. So if I take the wire further back to the undamaged section, you think that will be okay and it may just have been due to old wire/connector? Thanks

    Oven element wire

Hi, A few weeks ago our oven element broke, so I replaced it, which was a simple enough job. However, it didn't last and one of the wires seems to have caught fire (see photo). I am hoping this is an easy fix, but I don't know why this may have happened, and would rather not buy a new oven...

How should I earth a metal pendant light?

I heart pattress. I've only just found out what he's called... I could hardly turn my back on him. Although I think you're saying if I remove the pattress I remove the earth coming out of the ceiling, which I had not realised, so perhaps pattress will go. Also, I'm not very confident in my DIY...

How should I earth a metal pendant light?

Eek, don't get me worried about that- trying to change a light is proving hard enough! So, perhaps as expected, the earth wires won't all fit into the earth bit sticking out of the pattress. What now? Can I connect them to the metal bracket in the photo? Or should I join all three wires using a...

How should I earth a metal pendant light?

I had actually planned on using plastic connector blocks originally, or rather had assumed that was the answer, but hoped someone in the shop would help me. Will these do? http://www.screwfix.com/p/6a-terminal-strips-pack-of-10/60804

How should I earth a metal pendant light?

I hadn't got to that part yet! I had panned a trip to Screwfix or B&Q. Something like this (http://www.diy.com/departments/ideal-orange-32a-in-line-wire-connector-pack-of-10/1473915_BQ.prd) but feel free to correct me...

How should I earth a metal pendant light?

I do, yes, thanks. I had to cut the metal bracket into three and discard the middle bit as it was from another light and was too wide, so wanted to check the holes I had cut were in the right place. Can I just screw the two earth wires from the light into the metal bit where the green/blue wire...

How should I earth a metal pendant light?

Hi, I'm replying to an old thread as it was the closest I could find to answering my problem (although I'm sure it has been asked since). I have a metal light with the usual two wires, plus an earth coming from the flex cable, plus an earth connected to the metal casing separately. Do I need to...
