    Help Rayburn Air lock

Just done drain and refill and got water temperature up, this time it cleared the air lock at about 80 deg and is running all ok. When filling I isolated the radiators then filled up and once filled took two buckets out of the drain connection bottom of Rayburn which allowed some air lock to...

    Help Rayburn Air lock

Yes I made a slight mistake on the drawing see new attached picture. Pump is pumping to wards Rayburn into T-injector into bottom of Rayburn. Been installed and working for about 15 years only issue is air lock when I drain it to do any maintenance.

    Help Rayburn Air lock

just done another drain and refill to see if it changes anything, Rayburn lit so waiting for water to heat up. May need to install more bleed valves in future and maybe fill pipe should go to bottom of the rayburn rather than the bottom of the cylinder coil

    Help Rayburn Air lock

vent connection is inline with the top cylinder outlet. This is why I thought I would not need an air vent. I think the rayburn is filling up from the bottom and then up to vent outlet where it will lock air in the cylinder coil.

    Help Rayburn Air lock

I have a Rayburn connected to hot water cylinder indirect with radiators which turn on when at certain temperature. The system has been working for many years with no issues, but when I drain the system I get an air lock which sometime sorts itself out when the temperature gets to 90 deg. I...

    Steel Beam support

Externally this is all poly sheets, internally this was paneled over due to noise. This roof will not be what i am fitting on the new conservatory as it will be all glass. Construction of the current one is 4 x 4 grandis red hard wood beams with none supporting glazing beams on top.

    Steel Beam support

Thought i would upload pictures of current conservatory. I will be using this front brought forward to the new boundary line. As you can see the current roof has velux openers sitting on the hard wood beams which are easily same weight as glass units if not more and this has been all ok for 6...

    Steel Beam support

The side walls will not be taking any weight unless a purlin was installed in which case I would build brick piers. The beams will be attached to the house wall on a wall plate and the front will be on a 4 x 4 hard wood plate across the top of the whole front. Each beam will match up with the...

    Steel Beam support

Hello Chibs thanks for the comment. The yellow box in the drawing is just highlighting the conservatory boundary, the front will be full glass and the sides are wood stud walls with cladding. I have been told that over 4 M span the glazing bars will need support, but I am just over at 500mm so...

    Steel Beam support

Change in direction I was looking into doing the glazing beams in wood. If they where made from 150mm x 50mm Ash would I still need a purlin. I would need noggins to stop any sideways movement but over a 4.5 M span and at 10 deg would these beams take the weight. Its a very strong wood and has...

    velux installed vertically

The flashing should not be a problem as i would have cladding overlapping the frame. The vent should be oK if the top flashing is installed as this will be pointing down. As for installing window you have a good point it might not mechanically work. I might be wrong and it might leak just...

    velux installed vertically

I am removing some velus center pivoting windows and was wondering if I could use them in another project by installing them vertically like a normal window. would this work or would they leak some how.

    Steel Beam support

Yes this is just the glass. Only from my calculations on line. i will be using toughened units 700mm by 2250mm at 4mm thick. Glass is 10kg per m^ so I work this out to be 30Kg per unit. I will need 24 unit so total across the roof will be 720kg. I have redone the calculations as i have changed...

    Steel Beam support

I need some advice on the size of steel beam to support a glass roof. I am building a conservatory glass roof 4.5 meters wide by 8.5 meters long. The glass will be 800mm wide supported on 100mm x 100mm beams at 4.5 M long. I need to put a steel beam as a purling along the 8.5m in the middle of...

    Footings

Yes well below house footing but they were always shallower in the past. i'm not hitting fresh soil its a lot more lighter brown and mostly compacted stones. It takes a good swing of the pickax to get a about 3 inches into it. I could go down further by slowly pickaxing and racking to get a...

    Footings

I am fitting a conservatory which will be full length glass no walls. i have already dug out footings 500mm wide and 700mm depth. for a single footing wall to DP level i know most people would advice 1000mm depth but i am already hitting compacted gravel and stones as big as house bricks which...

    Glass Conservatory roof

I think I have now found my answer in the web, muntin bar will do the job. I have another question if any one has a glass roof what thickness would the glass be. I think 4mm is ok below 6 m in height and what is the best spacing between sheets
