Raft foundation - do I need to underpin?

Is part of the raft. So the toe, is this part of the raft or the slab? If the toe is part of the slab, what's the purpose of a raft being identified as a raft? The beam section... does this make up the raft being a raft or the slab? So as I have it, that big flat square piece of concrete which...

Raft foundation - do I need to underpin?

Ok let's look at this from a different view. A door... a door is a door, I'd be hanging a door, I wouldn't be hanging the stiles, jamb and head. Just like a door, a raft is made up of different sections, like the toe, the slab. As a whole it's a raft. Today I ate some skin and some pulp but...

Raft foundation - do I need to underpin?

No, the slab is a slab, a raft is the raft as a whole.

Either insulate the knee wall and meet the insulation between the rafters coming down from the ridge, and then can leave out the ins. After the knee wall towards the eaves, or continuos insulation between the rafters from ridge to eaves and can leave out the knee wall insulation.

Raft foundation - do I need to underpin?

So why has the raft foundation been done? Who would do a raft if a standard dig would suffice? If the raft is there to serve the purpose, a normal dig won't.

Raft foundation - do I need to underpin?

Was merely saying the Concrete strip in content sounds like it's the toe of the raft. I've been lucky enough to have completed a few rafts now along the way, and every design I've been supplied by SE has Involved the perimeter of the build being a deeper footing, steel links and bars with mesh...

Raft foundation - do I need to underpin?

The 200mm (20cm) the perimeter of the garage sounds like the 'toe'. It should then step up which the internal skin is built off and is also floor level. So would be around 400 thick. Although this still isn't really thick/deep enough. Concrete under the walls in a raft should be as deep as your...

Conservatory shifting - ask to dig to check foundations

Conservatories don't require building regs. So any movement/subsidence, is down to the builder or conservatory company to rectify under any warranty you may have with them. On a personal note, I'd be ripping it down and have it replaced with an extension/garden room. At least you'll be able to...

    Approximate build cost

Absolute no chance materials being 7-10k. There's 2k in roof lanterns straight away. Being in the middle of your 7-10, that's leaving 6.5k. Piles AND a raft. And not any Mickey Mouse piles, 8mtrs down. Another grand in conc. another grand in steel mesh ect. It's starting to get tight is this...

    Footings...

If all of the foundation runs are at the same depth and it's clay all the the way round, there's no issue. Get down to around 750-900mm, ring inspector, when he says, which if clay he probably will,,,,, "are you going to fill it?" (With concrete that is) your instant reply is, awww yeah, filling...

What type of roofing felt is used? Old black bitumen type stuff or a breathable membrane? Ventilation is the key. I've never included a vpl. Let's look at it logically,,,, at what point does it go into the sandwich?? Whichever stage of layer it is, it's going to get peppered with screws...

    Building Project Manager/Contractor

Best thing to do is get a building firm in. To do the lot. Materials and labour. You will end up spending more on materials than quoted for. And if your not vat registered, I'm not sure how the zero vat would work for yourself for a new build. That small bit of DPM you need for said place, the...

The Rockwool between the rafters has to go. I've no idea why it's been put there in the first place. Rockwool out. Fix some 2x2 to underside of all rafters. Treated timbers as a bonus. Foilboard insulation in between rafters, maintaining a 50mm gap between felt and insulation. Arguements sake...
