i know, the shoes weren't necessary, but they were really comfy, unlike the harness.

Double Effing bingo! They now work independently of one another. No harm done to me, nor Mr. Clive Sparks. But, then, I WAS wearing rubber soled shoes just in case of contact, and hanging Ethan Hunt-style from a helicopter I hired. Next time, I'll just trigger the MCB in the consumer unit, but...

    Wiring help wanted

I care, Clive Sparks! I have learnt how to partially use a multimeter, and established that my assumptions were correct in terms of which wires were which, but perhaps not their true function as it stands. I will switch the switch-line and the switch-feed and let you know. As you say, it can't...

Umm, thank you, but if you read my posts, you will see that I haven't refused the advice. I've chosen not to act upon all of it just yet, in case someone else might be able to help resolve the issue. There's nothing wrong with the advice itself, just plenty with the way in which it has been...

I'm well aware of what Plan B is. How I choose to interpret and employ it is down to me, as are the words I choose whilst implementing it. My Plan B is working at the moment, barring the odd distraction.

Thank you, ban-all-sheds. You made your position clear with your first post. There was no need to re-iterate. I may well have to resort to elements of Plan A, but Plan B is working here quite satisfactorily for me at the moment. I might even try Plan C with the ring live, just for the sheer...

Looking for PZ 117/86 handle in chrome or silver

Our upvc front door has a Millenco locking mechanism. It uses an offset pad handle set with PZ 117/86. Does anyone know if silver or chrome, preferably brushed, exist in this PZ combo? I can only find gold and white colour options, despite extensive googling. Thanks

    Wiring help wanted

This is as much cabling as seems to want to come out of the ceiling easily. I'm hoping there's a block of earth wires up there somewhere. You can see a cable with a cut live. I'm assuming that this is the switch wire with the cut live at the other end. It has a switched live connecting with two...

So the switch is as you surmised, except I've swapped the switched lives to L1

    Wiring help wanted

Hi winston1 Yes, that is exactly what I have, plus a fly earth to the front plate. I've wired it up as you say, but it's still not working. One switch works fine, although it needs to be in the "off" position to be on. The other one only works if the first switch is on, and then it works OK...

Sorry for my further inexactness. The problem has been there for years since the decoration was last done by someone else. I'm trying to resolve it now that I'm redecorating. I haven't touched the wiring. It was last working properly when we moved in over 20 years ago, but not since the previous...

    Wiring help wanted

Sorry for my inexactness. I realise the "neutrals" in question are switched lives, hence the sheaths. I also know how a switch works when it connects directly to the light that it controls. I have also done some googling to try and find this setup, but was unable to. I will see if your links...

    Wiring help wanted

I have two living room lights that are supposed to work off separate switches, and independently of each other. There is a two-gang switch plate for this purpose. However, one light only has one wire going to it. The other light has three wires. The switch has two wires feeding into it, but one...
