    I bet you’re glad I started this. :)

    Unreachable condensate pipe

@Buxus ive no idea what the Worcester offer is. I saw the ice valve gadget referenced in an old thread on here along with a link to a long expired eBay advert. Basically a valve fitted internally on the condensate pipe with a length of narrow “drain” pipe. You open the valve when there’s a risk...

    Unreachable condensate pipe

This problem of external condensate pipes is huge. I hadn’t realised that the external pipes were such an issue. My most recent installation is external but larger diameter and while near a sink, there’s no internal route to the waste. My local council have published advice to tenants about...

    Unreachable condensate pipe

I suspect that there are a few bodge jobs in the house my son bought. However they see a bit stuck for choice in the price range and location and, in time, it’ll be a very nice home. They had someone out and he wouldn’t climb a ladder either (restricted space and too windy) so they’ve cut the...

    Unreachable condensate pipe

Stereo types do not apply here. Not very “son” is interested in DIY. Had they been closer I’d have fixed it by now. I’m still tempted to drive down ..... They’re in a queue for someone to come out but not considered a priority. When I posted here it was in the vain hope there’s another way of...

    Unreachable condensate pipe

How many people in their first home have double ladders? And there’s no women living at the house

    Unreachable condensate pipe

I’ve read up on trace heating - very interesting and I think a relatively inexpensive way of preventing future issues given the location of the pipe. Facebook is currently littered with posts from people who have frozen condensate pipes so it’s clearly a big problem. I finally got a picture of...

    Unreachable condensate pipe

Every condensing boiler I’ve ever come across has the condensate pipe outside. Are you saying every installation is wrong?

    Unreachable condensate pipe

I know what you mean and I understand the suggestion but it’d have to go across the landing into the bathroom. According to posts on Facebook lots of people have suffered frozen condensate pipes today and yesterday. It seems putting the pipe outside it very common. Obviously it’s unusually cold...

I’ll pass on the idea about aa hole. Thanks. I didn’t understand why you were asking about the distance. I can’t see the hose pipe being a popular idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Unreachable condensate pipe

They have tried to detach the pipe where it exists in the cupboard but the elbow joint won’t budge (could it be “glued”?) and space is limited. They don’t have a hacksaw to cut it. It’s about 12 feet from a sink. I think the whole external pipe used to have a covering but that part of it has...

    Unreachable condensate pipe

Sadly no ladders or hairdryer. Like I said - they can’t reach it to apply heat. It’s not actually my house it’s my sons. His first and they only moved in about 8 weeks ago. This is the second time they’ve not had a working boiler and they don’t know anyone in the area. It could be worse. It...

Seriously? As it happens I suggested a hairdryer on the inside but they don’t have one!

    Unreachable condensate pipe

Good point! The boiler is installed on the first floor with the condensate pipe running along the outside wall to the drain pipe. A section nearest the point that traverses into the house has no lagging/insulation. Overall the pipe is about a metre long with the unprotected section being about...

Can anyone think of a way of defrosting a condensate pipe that we can’t reach please? Thanks

Texecom fire alarm channels won’t reset

Afternoon quite a battle I got one of the detectors off and refitted and now there’s only two errors on the panel :). I’ll get one of my sons to help sort the others (they’re on higher ceilings) tomorrow. I wonder what caused three detectors to trip ........ Thank you for your help. I’m glad...

Texecom fire alarm channels won’t reset

Menu the 5 message is “no location text has been set up” There’s an unmarked box on the other side of the wall - ie in the understairs cupboard - which is screwed shut. That it?

Texecom fire alarm channels won’t reset

What main box? I’ve applied remote fob and pressed rest. I’ve typed the code and pressed reset. I’ve pressed reset. The latter gets me an audible alarm because of the fault. The other two make no difference but there is now a tone when I open the front door and that didn’t used to be there.

Texecom fire alarm channels won’t reset

The alarm won’t set because of the message. Apologies for the photo of the detector - its near a light which I had to switch to get the shot :)
