No Hot Water - Unvented System

Thanks Terry. Do I need to change the whole valve? How would I know? I'm guessing it's just the actuator. I've seen a lot of people say "replace the head" what does that mean exactly? Is that just replacing the motor, or does it mean replacing the whole metal not that sits above the valve. Sorry...

No Hot Water - Unvented System

Thanks to both of you for replying. Yes, it is the valve. Is this something I could replace myself or should I get someone in to do it?

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm away from home tonight but will check this tomorrow.

No Hot Water - Unvented System

Thanks, will do. Quick question though. If the valve is faulty, I don't understand why when the central heating was on, the pipe for the hot water coil to the cylinder, just after the valve was hot, but the water leaving the cylinder was lukewarm. That confused me totally, as if the coil is...

No Hot Water - Unvented System

Thanks. So I tried this and it worked as you described. But in this case, when I called for the hot water, the boiler fired up as expected so its working anyway. Should I repeat the test when the water has gone call, the hot water is being called and the boiler is not firing? Or is that a...

No Hot Water - Unvented System

Hi All, I have a strange problem that started 2 days ago. I have a Worcester Bosch Boiler and Unvented Cylinder. Been working solid for 3 years. Yesterday, there was no hot water at any outlet (tap/showers). It was just lukewarm. The thermostat was set to call for hot water but the boiler wasnt...

    Painting Plastic Window Surround

I forgot to ask. Which gloss would you recommend? The surface in question gets a lot of direct sun light so I don't want it to yellow.

    Painting Plastic Window Surround

Thanks. Yes, I believe it's definitely plastic . Got up on a ladder and it's completely hollow and where paint has peeled off, you can see the plastic. You are right, I can't see why they painted it in the first place. Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated.

    Painting Plastic Window Surround

Ok. I'll take a look later when I'm home. If it was masonry it would feel hard to knock right? Like knocking on brick? When I knock on this it feels completely like plastic. Just so you have a better idea, my door surround looks just like the one here...

    Painting Plastic Window Surround

Hi, I'm pretty sure it's not masonry because it's completely hollow. I know this because in places there are cracks and I can see that they're not masonry cracks.

    Creaking Stairs

Understood, but the baton is nailed ono diagonally to the risers and I think there is some give there. But like you said, if the stairs are strong then the baton shouldn't come into it. I'll try everything you said and hopefully it will get resolved. Thanks.

    Creaking Stairs

I think I'll just change for the D4. Im not very good with messy stuff :) I was just taking another look and I tried to hold the riser right where the baton is nailed into it and then I tried moving the baton and it still creaks at the baton so im not sure if the screwing will solve everything...

    Creaking Stairs

Thanks, I bought the second one already. But I might just exchange it for the first one because the gaps aren't big and if the second one requires more care might be easier to use the first.

    Creaking Stairs

That makes a lot of sense. Let me see what I can do. I can see some gaps there so some glue and tightening of the screws should make a difference.
