    12V LIGHT PROBLEM

:D Crafty, thank you, I'm obviously behind the times. I've dismantled part of the loft and found 2 transformers, one with one light - which explains why one works. There is a second transformer with the rest on. I can only get to one bulb, the one that works as I moved the tank on to the area...

    12V LIGHT PROBLEM

Thank you. It is a muti. I did see that post and didn't think it applied as the transformer is far too big to be pulled through the tiny lampholder hole. And is is screwed to a ceiling joist as well.

    12V LIGHT PROBLEM

Col Jack. I wasn't sure if posts added to old threads would be flagged up for email so created a new one. Sorry to have upset you. I did not see an answer to my specific question though otherwise I would not have posted.

    12V LIGHT PROBLEM

Hello, I turned on our bathroom lights yesterday evening and only one of the 6 12V 50W bulbs came on. I've changed one bulb and confirmed that it's not a faulty bulb. I hope its not the transformer as it means lifting carpets and flooring to find it! Any ideas anyone please? :?:

HOT WATER GOING INTO COLD TANK

Bob, thanks. Rob, taps replaced already. Not sure how immersion thermostat would cause the problem, wouldn't the overheated water just vent out the vent pipe? This hot water is coming up the cold feed.

HOT WATER GOING INTO COLD TANK

Bobthebender. Thanks very much, I've just told him. Do you know why it does not do it continuously please?

HOT WATER GOING INTO COLD TANK

 My brother has had a problem for a while with hot water occassionally going up from the hot tank into the cold tank, not by the overflow but by the pipe that feeds the hot tank. I've been in the loft when it happens and the water is hot and the plastic tank can get soft. Water goes out...

    REPLACING SMALL BORE PIPES

Thanks Dave, thought I might have to. Will have te be very careful with the floor covering. :)

    REPLACING SMALL BORE PIPES

Dave, thanks. It's a 3 bed semi, not sure of BTU. My concern was that there would be 15mm feeding the tee which sends 15mm downstairs and 15mm to the upstairs rooms. It's bound to heat up quicker than the old 10mm, or 8mm it might have been, before I did the upstairs conversion a couple of...

    REPLACING SMALL BORE PIPES

Hello, heating system had 10mm pipework. I have changed the upstairs to half inch and want to do the downstairs. However, the pipework from near the HW tank to the Tee junctions where the flows split, is half inch. Will this cause a problem or should I change it to inch please? I would...

    No Heating

Three weeks without heat was a getting a bit much, particularly when we had snow last week. I called a heating engineer and told him what I had found. He suggested that it was the motorised valve. 15 mins looking at it, 30 mins going to get the actuator and 15 mins to fit. £173.67. (motor...

    DAMP UNDER BAY WINDOW

Skid, it was under the floor but the new ones are also. The old one was at ground level outside and it filled with rubbish.

    DAMP UNDER BAY WINDOW

Mandate, thanks for the advice. I have spoken to a friend who is in the construction business. He said that the type of house had a parapet gutter with a 2 or 3 inch cast iron pipe going through the brickwork to the drains below. I will investigate this.

    DAMP UNDER BAY WINDOW

The guttering is part of the roof, it's concrete. There is no cavity in the walls so I assume there must be a pipe of sorts within the wall but I do not know the course it takes or where it goes.

    DAMP UNDER BAY WINDOW

I have a bay fronted victorian terrace house. The wall under the front bay window is very damp inside and snails and slugs manage to get into the room. I have sealed the outside floor tiling as best I can, sealed up the victorian air brick which used to fill with rubbish and put in two new...

    Masona, yes, just one valve.

    No Heating

Thanks for your posts. I have tested the switches and they both work and I have swopped over the microswitches and it makes no difference. I have looked at the lever on the motorised valve and it does not move, either when the water is switched on or the heating. If I put it to the left or...

    No Heating

Thank you for your helpful comments. I checked the motorised valve and it seems ok. What I have noticed is that when I turn on the water, power goes to the boiler but no power goes to the boiler when I turn on the heating. The timer seems to be functioning ok and I switched over the...

    No Heating

Mandate, thank you, I will try that tomorrow. The lever is usually in the centre. If I push it to the right then the pump works but a spring operates and pulls it back to the centre position. The lever moves to the left freely, in fact there is no resistance at all and that does not seem...
