your microswitch overrun diagram is spot on. the unit is a clever microswitch adaptation with parts not exceeding a few quid to manufacture. I agree with the versatility, hence i quite favour this method . (good to know the 1012 can fit diff. pipe sizes) thanks!!

Thats what I am doing right now ... keeping the old timer as is. the boiler L & N redirected to new boiler + mains supply L & N shared between the 2. using the old as pump over run. new timer just to serve the boiler. Mounting new timer externally is much better and very convenient. the new 424...

GAS VALVE to Programmer Solenoid terminal: I am not sure.. but I have a feeling that this red wire from the gas value maybe a DC current instead of AC ? the ceramic plate has a grey metalic conductor strip ( see image above) that heats up the stat plate next to it... Or probably the wire...

Stem: yes the red wire from gas valve is connected to the existing timer terminal (2) solenoid. which then, from this terminal, a white wire is wired to the 2nd terminal of microswitch and relayed to ceramic heating place. I have linked the actual positions with green lines between the drawing...

No this is just like any normal mounted boiler. with timer and pump at the bottom. This ebay unit is the same 424 Emerald model but it has no pump overrun. This boiler has a bespoke 424 emerald , same design but they added a clever pump over run with microswitch. So my replacement will need...
