Gate hits gas pipe to boiler - fail regs?

Surely - from a customer service point of view - a half hour job to move the upper horizontal along a bit and drop down between vent and flue... job done and no aggro off the customer. Agree with some earlier comments - not the prettiest / well thought out

    Whole House boiler installation

Surely controls have to be supplied under boiler+ ...? Edit: unless he insists you have them and is asking you to choose your own and he’ll install..?

green residue on copper pipes (near joints - caused by flux)

To answer the initial question - yes... the green is flux. Wipe as much off as you can with a wet rag and a bit of elbow grease. Some may be inaccessible - your options are limited with this.

green residue on copper pipes (near joints - caused by flux)

For what it’s worth, i disagree. I’d much sooner see a DIY’er come for advice and do a decent job than flood a home and cause suffering. There are a lot of good chaps on here who give some very sound advice - and will check in a couple of times a day to help people out if they can. I’ve...

40kw Boiler in 3 Bed Bungalow

Wow - that’s a hell of a gas bill. Wonder if your engineer missed something/didnt do something. Did he scribble any numbers down in your service manual? Gas rates etc...?

Drains gurgle when running a tap in another room

Weird - had a lady a few days ago with a similar problem. When she flushed the loo the shower would make a loud gurgling. And there was that smell of sewers/**** I suspected that the trap in the shower was blocked/not right. Ended up pulling half the floor up and, sure enough, it was all...

    Pipes in concrete floor

There’s no issue with gas pipes in concrete if it’s done correctly - so seems a shame to lose the feed to the fire... But if you’re happy with the solution and you don’t mind losing the fire then happy days. Agree with the method described above

Changing tap washer - dismantling tap

Whip off the red plug is there isnt a grub screw - pull handle off. Lower gland cover will/should unscrew to reveal the tap gland. Grab some grips and unscrew (a bit of wd40 sometimes helps...) Pull it out and change your washer. Oh... probably best to isolate/turn the water off first...

Does a copper pipe system have a limited shelf life?

Yeah - fair point. I reckon i’m an honest person when i go out... and you know you can stick and extra few quid on some jobs - but it’s that moral compass that stops you. Just remembered a job from a while ago where i told the woman to update the pipework - it looked knackered to me. She...

Does a copper pipe system have a limited shelf life?

Yeah - but the bad bit about a forum is that the person isnt actually there to have a look and can only go off what they see. To continue the mechanic analogy - my mate’s a mechanic for the AA and he’s forever getting called by people who say ‘what’s this rattling noise...’ - ‘not a bloody clue...

Does a copper pipe system have a limited shelf life?

It’s hard to judge from the pictures you’ve shown - my first instinct would be that I wouldn’t replace if that were a representation of the whole installation. I’d clean off the green stains to ensure it wasnt penetrating the joint (flux has a habit of that.) And then it’s the visual...

Does a copper pipe system have a limited shelf life?

Can be a number of factors. Does customer have issues? Is the pipework secure Does it look like lots of repairs have been done on it. Cut a section of the pipework, does it look clear and clean. Does it run nicely where it’s unlikely to be damaged or corroded (screeds etc..) Do joints...

Does a copper pipe system have a limited shelf life?

Ok, i confess... t’was me. As got the original post... if it’s less than 25 years old and showing no sign of distress... i wouldnt touch it. Same goes for copper piping :D

    Toilet water level dropped

Well if it’s not blocked. There’s enough water in the cistern upon flushing. Your soil stack air vent hasnt been taken over by birds (!) and there’s no crack in the porcelain to allow the water out - it’s time to call a plumber.
