Thanks Sparky for your brutally honest assessment and your suggestion to try "reset" - it worked. Thanks Pars for your advice too. After resetting, zone 4 was no longer lit up and I was able to arm the alarm as per normal.

After returning from holiday and entering the house, the alarm was making an unusual noise but silenced as normal when I entered the code. However, later on before going out, when I tried to set the alarm nothing happened when I typed in the code. I then noticed that a light is lit up for zone 4...
