    Curving Collar Tie

Nice one, thanks Woody. Like I say, I'm out of my comfort zone on this one and do have a tendency to worry unless I know enough about what's happening. The roof looks fine, hasn't sunk as far as I can see, so I'll monitor it for the time being and if it stays as is, then I'll leave it. If it...

    Curving Collar Tie

Hi All, Had a water tank problem and while fixing it, noticed that one of the collar ties in our loft has a proper bend in it. The house is a 1990's new build and is at the end of a row, so the roof slopes at the front, back and at one side. Roughly half way across the loft space is a post...

Non Central Heating - Hot water fine

Hi, Thanks for replying. I must admit that I'm a bit in the dark on the exact layout of what we have. I'm familiar with my own setup, but this one is at a relative's house. I will have a go with both heating and hot water on to see if that makes a difference and will get back.

Non Central Heating - Hot water fine

Hi All, I need a bit of advice with non-functioning central heating while the hot water still works. The boiler isn't in my house so I'm not 100% familiar with it and it's the first time it's really been used since about last April. If I turn the hot water on at the controller, the boiler...

    Which cctv

I'll stick with the Unifi's thanks. The idea that the picture quality is inferior isn't borne out by the evidence of our own eyes and the lack of coax means we only have to run a cable to one of the 25 odd edge switches we have around the building.

    Loft tank replacement platform question

Hi all, Just a quick update in case anyone else is asking the same question and would like to know what happened. I posted on two forums and got several very helpful suggestions and in the end, the fact that the existing platform had lasted a fair time with the old tank on it meant it could...

    Which cctv

The Hikvisions worked and were OK for the time they were fitted but the difference between the picture from them and the Unifi's is quite surprising. The real difference though of the software. It's so much quicker and easier to use. Were in the process of swapping the old cameras out which...

    Loft tank replacement platform question

Hiya, Thanks for that, I feel a lot more settled regarding the current set up but am aware that the two 25 gallon tanks are loading the platform up in a different way to the original round one. I think the nails may be shorter and I was making an assumption (always a mistake) I suspect the...

    Which cctv

I work in a secondary school and we had a series of thefts of bikes so we put in CCTV. We already had a Hikvision system but the picture quality wasn't up to much so we had a look around to see what was available. In the end we went for a Unifi camera setup from a company called Ubiquti not...

    Loft tank replacement platform question

One other possibility I had thought of was to add 2x6 boards along the sides to make a box and screw 4x4 blocks into the corners to hold it together. The loft hatch is awkwardly positioned for getting an additional 3m 6x2 into the loft but it I'll only find out by trying.

    Loft tank replacement platform question

That's kind of what I've been thinking. I dontddo much building but when I do, I tend to over engineer. On the one hand, it was there for 20 years with the old tank on it, but on the other, it does seem a bit lightweight for a quarter ton load. I was considering leaving the existing set up...

    Loft tank replacement platform question

Hi Everyone, Wasn't sure whether this should go into plumbing or building but I posted in plumbing and lots of views but no replies so I've reposted here. Our loft tank has stretched to the point where it's a couple of inches wider than its lid and while I have plumbed in copper and plastic...

    Loft tank replacement platform question

Hi Everyone, Wasn't sure whether this should go into plumbing or building but as it's the plumber that has to do tank replacements, I thought I'd put it in here. Our loft tank has stretched to the point where it's a couple of inches wider than its lid and while I have plumbed in copper and...
