    Hi wessex101, I'm afraid I don't know what kind of bricks they are. I did pick a small bit of paint away from a corner to try and see the crack more clearly. Not the best thing to do but I couldnt see how wide the crack was.

    Can't confirm unfortunately, as property is my in law's who have both died years ago. If no work has been done, what can cause the different colour? There is no evidence of damp in the house if it's moisture.

    I'm sure my windows have lintels, as when fitting a new curtain pole in a back bedroom, I couldn't drill into the wall directly above the window. Can I use any sort of exterior filler on this?
