Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

Just an update. I got some Citric acid crystals and added it with boiling water to the 'scale' I'd collected. Didn't do anything. I descaled the kettle to test and the citric acid worked wonders (better than Oust). So I added the 'scale' into the kettle and boiled it up with Citric Acid -...

Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

snb - Thanks for your input, I've read similar online to your comments and to me it still looks like scale, and seems to come loose when the water is hotter. Will definitely get it vac'd out. But is it the main coil or the immersion that tends to scale... or both? And if it is scale, why...

Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

That's correct Lower. Just from the hot outlets feeding from the tank. I hadn't considered anything other than normal scale. I'm just sat here reading about debris from a disintegrated "water heater dip tube" but whatever that is (?) it seems an old issue...

Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

Hi Gasguru. I hadn't tried that, but I just held a lighter directly to a small piece and it turned to a yellowish liquid, then immediately back to solid once the flame was removed. Definitely not combustable. The tap appears to have cleared itself for now. Obviously the increased heat in the...

It's just constant now - kitchen hot tap gargling and banging whenever it's run. Mesh filter is off as it clogs within 1 second. Just filled a vase...

Fair point chaps. Water temp at the tap was only 45 degrees this morning so I've nudged the stat back up to around 65 on the tank and 70 on the boiler. Boiler ran for 20 mins then when it stopped I ran the kitchen tap for about 10 seconds before the familiar gurgling happened. Before this I...

Hi... nope nothing like that. Just a standard new build installation. Probably installed as quick as possible and not flushed through properly, but I can't see how that would cause issues 6 years later. If we were staying I'd already thought a water softener might be required though. There was...

Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

Just to add... in late summer I flushed the tank through 3 times. There was a tiny bit of the crud came out with it but nothing like what I was expecting. Refilled the tank and let it settle but was plagued with deposits for a few days afterwards whenever we used taps or showers. Seems to be...

Good shout on the strainer I'll have a look about. Primary boiler temp was always max (80) but since I've dropped the tank stat to halfway I've had it at 65. Will have a play in both directions and see if it makes any odds, but I fear the damage is now done and I'm fighting an endless battle...

Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

Thanks. I'll definitely drop Megaflo a line tomorrow and will be engaging a qualified plumber in any case... but it's definitely not plastic. Does appear to be limescale to me as it goes chalky when it dries. For what it's worth the bubble seems to be behaving normally - just the usual annual...

Megaflo scale problems - advice required on descale.

No smell noticeable no... but that's worrying. It sure looks like scale, and is hard. When a larger lump is left out of water it does have a greenish tinge to it and goes brittle, like limescale. The 2nd pic is the only time I've seen it like that... most times it looks like the 1st pic...

Hello and happy new year. I'm not a plumber, I know you need an unvented ticket to do this work, I've done all I can, I'm just looking to clue up so I know the job will be done right. Megaflo 210i Unvented Indirect cylinder installed in new build house 7 years ago. Problems just started in the...
