All lights upstairs not working since Strip light change

Probably not that exciting, my guess would be that there is just the one lighting circuit and the upstairs lights are after the kitchen light on that circuit and aren’t connected properly. Have you checked to see if the upstairs lights work if the kitchen light is left on? I’d be surprised if...

    Faulty BT Line

This is just not true. Which “organisation” do you think Sky and BT both belong to? This would have serious regulatory implications for Openreach if true. Do you have any evidence of this being the case? If so, it should be taken to Ofcom. As an end user your contract is with your ISP, and...

New Extension - Cert for building Regs required

I had a similar situation and the council accepted an EICR on the new parts. In my situation there were no new circuits (extension of existing ring and lighting circuit) and the kitchen is not a ‘special location’ in England, so the work was not notifiable, however the BR guy would not issue...

    teleswitch faulty

I guess it could be, I didn't really pay enough attention at the time to see if they all had the same group ID on them (I do recall they had it written on them though). I guess one thing that was odd though was they *my own* timing would vary by upto 30 mins each night. In fact, now I remember...

    teleswitch faulty

Indeed, in one of my remotely-switched setups, we had similar. 'On' would be somewhere between 00:00 and 00:30 GMT, and 'off' would be somewhere between 07:00 and 07:30 GMT (corresponding to the on time to give exactly 7 hours). In one other property I'm pretty sure the hours were 22:00 to 00:00...

    teleswitch faulty

I like the “plug in mechanical timer and see how far it advances” approach, especially as my brain starts thinking up all kinds of weird and wonderful solutions. Sometimes going back to basics is better!

    teleswitch faulty

I happened to be in the meter cupboard in an old flat I was in at the time of switchover. Around 30 flats, and they didn’t all switch at once, in fact it took around 20 for them all to switch. Seemed to be like the frequency of popcorn popping, one, then a little cluster, then a gap, then...

Red 100A light on the electricity meter and high pitch noise

I've just seen the exact same thing in the tech specs, and came here to post this too. Suppose it kind of makes sense - "100A contactor is energised" is presumably what it means. I'd personally be heading to the meter around the time I'd expect it to switch over (which in my experience varies...
