How easy/difficult to get a perfectly flat skimmed wall?

Since we've moved in and had various bits of plastering done by various people, it's got to the point where i'm curious enough to ask - how easy or difficult is it to skim a perfect wall, or at least very close to. Obviously i'd ideally want a perfect flat wall with no bumps, no imperfections...

    Paving Slabs v Indian Stone

Not helpful to your question i'm afraid but i'm curious what it is about Indian flags that you don't like, purely as you're the first person i've ever seen say that. Some colours i can totally agree with as they look bloody awful. Then some other colours on the other hand look superb although...

    Joints on hearth slabs cracking.

I just went looking for a brickwork forum but i guess this is probably the most suitable part? So may as well ask this here... I don't know what that chalky like coating is on the bricks. I'm guessing possibly what was left over from the dabs when we had boards attached to the walls. I can't...

    Joints on hearth slabs cracking.

That's exactly what's going down. The paving slabs have been taken out. I knocked out the old cracked cement and it had this layer of sand like stuff underneath in the middle. Regards fire cement putty, i don't think so. I'm pretty sure they sat it on a bed of sand & cement. I didn't...

Painting fresh plaster/renderlite... black & red paint..??

Thanks very much for the info. When i did the walls first/last time round i actually went with both sets of advice that i was finding online - i initially went with a 50:50 mix and then went with either a 70:30 or 80:20, i can't remember now. Then was going with the top coat. Sure it may have...

Painting fresh plaster/renderlite... black & red paint..??

Thanks. I actually have the tin ready to go. I bought it probably 2016. It's unopened (i actually have 1 opened tin but wonder what condition that's now in & 1 unopened tin). Thing is you can no longer get it (Dulux Endurance+ Salsa Red) so i don't particularly want to use it up watering it...

Painting fresh plaster/renderlite... black & red paint..??

At the very least then would the better bet be to buy in a red colour https://www.diy.com/departments/dulux-easycare-pepper-red-matt-emulsion-paint-2-5l/1643151_BQ.prd (or perhaps something cheap & cheerful although same colour as top coat - before putting a decent paint on top) and then use...

Painting fresh plaster/renderlite... black & red paint..??

Few questions here. 1) How soon after a fresh plaster job can you paint it? The last time i did it i wasn't in a rush so i let it totally dry out so everything was light pink. Is it possible to do it before that or is that the earliest? 2) Can someone refresh me on how you prep fresh plaster...

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

Is that like one of them lateral thinking puzzles? You'll have to solve that one for me then because i'm certainly not smart enough to figure it out. So the water comes upwards from the ground the house is built on. It doesn't come sideways, it doesn't come top down and drip in to the...

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

I'm sorry but i'm not sure if that would work. Access would be needed to the subfloor (which has a 1mtr drop btw) to replace/service the pump. So whoever is doing the job would A) need to fit through the hatch and B) be cable to get in at the pump down there to do whatever it is they're doing...

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

And for the bit about the sump pump .... to pump the water outside so it doesn't stay under the living room floor.

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

Except it isn't. You're only seeing it with everything moved. My living room is obviously not bare all year round. It's got stuff in there that isn't easily moved. As for what you're saying about a floor socket, not sure i follow to be honest. Sorry.

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

Hmm interesting. Thank you. I did wonder if they'd border off a square somehow rather than just cut a square and do a runner. I've got to find myself a carpet fitter. I'm hoping for one who's done a fair bit of time so may have done something similar. Because the water comes upwards from the...

    Joints on hearth slabs cracking.

1 big slab is something i've been thinking of. It would surely be have to cut to size though but it's something i've thought of. Not sure of material though. We went for black Indian limestone as we liked the look of it. I've just been & measured the bed and it seems to be 20mm in most places...

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

The hatch has already been in place. It does squeak but 1) we know roughly where it is when walking so tend to try and avoid it if we can and 2) it's not in an area of high traffic. You'd only really be walking in that area of the living room to either A) open the blinds or B) listen in a little...

    Joints on hearth slabs cracking.

I know this is an in the garden forum but this is the hearth in my living room. I put it here as it's still essentially paving slabs & the joints on them so figured it may be the best spot to ask this? Basically our living room suffers terrible damp. Those that installed the fire installed...

    Creating an access point (carpeting)?

So we have the carpet in the living room. Problem is there's a hatch towards the front of the house in the living room floor that it looks like we're going to need access to once per year. I don't want to have to go through the faff of moving what we've had to move this past week again and...

    Modifying shed for shelving?

More like how you'd fix them in. I can get some say 3x2 or something and cut it to size and place it where there's room but i don't want to screw from the inside out as then you've the end of the screw sticking through the outside. Screwing from the outside in & you're kind of guessing where it...

    Modifying shed for shelving?

Ideally i'd like a bigger shed but with other bills that must be more than 10+ years down the line so have to make do with the shed we inherited when we bought the house. Only thing is the uprights and crosspieces on the inside are in such locations that it makes putting shelving where i'd like...

Holy tiles and moving lead work.

Bit later than promised... Just wondering what'd be involved in sorting this out as it's pretty rotten. Or is it really not as bad as it looked? Again i don't know the makeup of a roof so don't really know if this needs sorting sooner rather than later or not.
