Update, I fitted the replacement unit, wired correctly this time, and it works perfectly. Moral of the story - read the instructions properly next time.

Nothing appeared to trip when the light came on briefly. Now it is re-wired with the earth on the correct point nothing comes on even briefly. Could I have damaged the unit by wiring it incorrectly perhaps?

Ok so now this is hopefully correctly wired but still nothing is happening. I’ve tried adjusting the luminosity and timer settings but still nothing, whether it won’t come on at all until it’s dark I don’t know. Any other thoughts? Should I try getting a replacement unit? Thanks for all the help!

Nothing’s tripping on the fuse board

Yes that’s correct the earth is the one to the left in the middle. So if that one shouldn’t be connected to the centre block, do I just leave it out altogether?
