Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

I can appreciate that. At the time, I was a home owner with a broken timer, who went to B&Q and asked for a suitable replacement. I bought the one suggested, attracted by the 'same back plate, fit in seconds' sales pitch and fitted it. I knew nothing of central heating systems at the time and...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

I can't comment on the 2 port from new set up, but can confirm the boiler we replaced with our current one was the original one to the house, a Baxi Solo. I can confirm that all the pipe work, cylinder and stat in the airing cupboard is original to the house which we moved into when only about...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

I'll try to answe everyone's post individually so as not to ignore and or anything. Thanks for your advice, I get where you are coming from. A concern I have before starting again from scratch, and having looked at images online of the 'idiots box' is that some of the connections I don't have...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Of course it doesn't help when you open the thermosat expecting to see terminals labelled C, 1, 2 and actually find 1,2 3 - introducing ambiguity as to what is what - is it safe to assume C is 3?

Thanks for your help so far - sorry if I'm frustrating you - I'm trying my best.

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Just checked that T1 on the cyl stat (red in the picture) goes to nowhere - i.e it terminates in the choco block but there are no wires joining up with this on the other side - it's a dead end. T2 in the cyl stat (yellow in the pic) joins up with the brown/orange(?) wire from the 3 port valve...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Sorry, I thought I was asked whether the grey wire from the 3 port was connected to terminal 2 in the stat - it isn't, as per the picture I posted. I'm sorry if I've misunderstood the question, and I get that the colours are meaningless (except the 3 port grey wire it seems - people seem happy...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Given that the two spare wires are joined up at the mounting plate (might not as well be there) and might not lead to the airing cupboard - if I haven't actually got a HW off cable, I'm stuffed, right?

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Indeed - a hornet's nest of vipers I think is the term. Difficult to know where to start.

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

It is a modern(ish) house built in 1989, so I can absolutely confirm that every single aspect of it was built by amateurs. Wiring, plumbing, joinery, plastering - all of it is borderline hopeless. The wiring is original, we've lived here almost from new and the original timer I replaced in...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Here is a picture of the inside of the cyl stat - the blue wire on the right attached to number 3 joins up to the grey wire on the 3 port valve with no other connections going anywhere from this particular junction on the connector block. Does this help?

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Someone has suggested I have a hot water priority system??? Not sure what this means, or if it is true, or what I do about it to get a CH only channel to work?

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Grey wire from 3 port goes to blue wire from cyl stat - no other wires exit from this part of the connector block, so the mysterious wire that 'should' go the terminal 1 isn't there.

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Please forgive me but could you help me achieve this status, as currently the airing cupboard end and wiring centre are less of a challenge to decipher than the back plate status. Currently at my back plate, there are no wires going to terminals 1 or 2. I do however have at the back plate (in...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Also, I just found this thread and whilst I can almost comprehend what is being said, I'm not sure whether this might apply to my situation and what to do about it if it does.....? https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/y-plan-mystery-no-hw-off-wire.209608/ Any thoughts?

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Thanks once agaon - this is hugely helpful. I removed the timer and jumped the wires between L, 3 and 4 as indicated and hey presto, everything works. If I up the room stat, the 3 port valve works and the rads warm up. If I up the cyl stat, the boiler also fires and heats the water in the tank...

Boiler not switching on, pump not running, no hot water - please help?

Thanks, would that explain my inability to not request heating only? If this is required, how has it worked all these years, albeit no CH only? So.... what do I do with two red wires joined together and two black wires joined together at the back plate? If I split them, which ones go into the...
