    Fused connection unit burnt out

To confirm the FCU has now been replaced. He backtracked on his word about running two appliances after he looked at the connections and admitted the live was not secured down adequately which he says more than likely caused the issue in the first place. He did also mention the firm that did...

    Fused connection unit burnt out

Thanks, luckily if any more issues arise they still need to carry out the remedial work free of charge as per the warranty agreement anyway. All local firms were contracted in and the building firm is a local one too. Glad about this as any issues so far have been resolved either the same day...

Repurposing old school lockers for garage storage

Yeah would be interesting to see how it works out. As Harry said above stacking them on their side would be a good idea, just trim the legs off. Or possibly 6 stacked sideways (3 in a stack, 2 stacks total) then 2 upright either side of these. Put some peg board in the center gap of them all...

    Fused connection unit burnt out

Single switch on both the kitchen and this light. Didn't know about the borrow neutral issues however so thanks for the info. Just thought cooker, hob, extractor & central heating would be a bit too much really. Every home before this has had central heating separated. Cheers, wasn't aware...

Repurposing old school lockers for garage storage

Options I'd think would be EDEN, CAEM, HMY & Arneg. Of the lot EDEN are by far the easiest to cut as they tend to be thinner than the others. I have previously used a jigsaw to cut these, just permanent marker a line and cover it with masking tape as this helps a great deal. Also the correct...

    Fused connection unit burnt out

If I'm honest the whole install is questionable. The central heating and cooker run on the same circuit for some reason. I changed the bayonet fitting in the downstairs hallway last week as I had enough of it fouling on the front door every time it was opened to a flush fit and found that it...

    Fused connection unit burnt out

Ah thank you for this, I'll have a look into it. Always assumed as this socket was put in place for these appliances specifically it would have been up to scratch as surely they would expect both to be on at some point. Worst case scenario is I can run another circuit anyway if the issue re...

Repurposing old school lockers for garage storage

Not sure about wooden peg board but I know you can get wooden slat boards. Approx £35 for 1.2m x 1.2m. Only peg board I have seen before is the stuff used in shops, it's 2-3mm think steel & fairly easy to fit down to size. Just make sure you leave about a cm gap behind it when fitting so the...

    Fused connection unit burnt out

Cheers, assumed the rcd would have tripped but I'm yet to research into the workings of them properly. Only experience I usually get of them is resetting them in work when the spot lights draw too much power first powering on and trip it haha.

    Fused connection unit burnt out

Hi, Just a quick one, I'm sure I'll be asking more at some point as I just purchased my own home finally! Anyway, house is a new build, been here two years now. In the kitchen there is a fused connection unit that goes to a twin socket that powers the washing machine & dishwasher. Today said...
