    topps tiles (grrr) and adhesive

I've gone into Topps Tiles (unfortunately, the only place in my area that sells Bal products) twice and thus far the staff have been a nightmare. The first time I went in to get a bag of Bal's Rapidset Flexiable. Bal's website says when using WP1 to skim coat the wall with flexible cement...

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

timbo04 From what I undersand from noseall and Jasonb you'll need to use wall plugs and screw. Not sure which type of screws, but would assume it would be the aquapanel screws which are 40mm. I believe these have a special type of coating to perhaps prevent rust etc when wet. Should be able...

    shaver socket in bathroom

Thanks for all the info! One minor point, regarding the 13amp and 3amp fcu. Isn't the difference just the fuse? The heater will be removed. I'm not sure if its off a spur, haven't opened the fcu yet.

    bathroom tiling

Thanks gcol. The square notched ok for the shower coverage too then? Yes, I will be tanking the shower. Also using AP on one of the walls, because I'm moving the shower mixer and pipes to behind the wall vs on top of the tiles. I'm removing as much of the paint as possible, but some parts...

    Tanking a shower

joe-90, I appreciate everyone's help including yours, however that comment was unproductive. Considering you've got 3 times as many posts in ~18 months you wouldnt expect people to critisice your "field" experience based on that.

    shaver socket in bathroom

I'm getting ready to update my bathroom and currently there is an FCU that a wall mounted heater is connected to. This is located about 1meter from the sink and 1 meter higher then the sink (about 1 foot from the ceiling) and is approx 1 meter from the shower. My bathroom is 1.8m x 1.5m (very...

    bathroom tiling

I'm about to start tiling my bathroom walls. Parts of the bathroom currently has wallpaper and as I was removing it today, I found under it some kind of gloss paint and parts of the paint was coming off with the wallpaper. Can I go ahead and tile over this with just tile adhesive, or do I need...

    Tanking a shower

I went to Topps Tile today looking for the WP1... wow @ £70 I asked about the skimming the AP before applying the WP1. I couldn't remember which Bal product I was suppose to mix with the flexible concrete tile adhesive and I was told that the WP1 goes straight onto the AP and that skimming is...

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

Hi Noseall The reason I decided to go with the battens is so I could run the shower pipes behind the wall without having to chisel into the brick work or to chisel all the plaster work thats currently on the brick. There is about 2.5cm thickness of plaster on the brick. I was hoping to just...

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

Ahhh... many thanks JasonB. It's clear now :D Would you still dab and dot on the back of the AP to the baton with flexi tile adhesive? and with the batons being wood, would I need specific adhesive for wood or would any flexi adhesive work? When I did my floor tiling I used specific...

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

So I shouldn't use batons then? or are you meaning that I must drill the aqualpanel to the brick only and not the plaster/brick if I don't use batons? Sorry don't mean to sound daft, just want to clarify. Many thanks!

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

hmmm... after having another look at my shower situation, I'm beginning to think I maybe better off with the batons. Currently my shower pipes are ontop of the tiles and I would rather these behind the wall. I was going to chisel out the old plaster and into the brick to place the shower pipes...

    Tanking a shower

I'm thinking about using Dunlop's waterproof for domestic showers my shower and would like anyone's input on this product. I've checked Dunlop's website for product information and it seems to be lacking a bit. It just says that it contains "everything you need - primer, coating and tape" and...

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

Sorry, this may seem quite daft, but I'm use to putting the plugs in prior to "hanging" an item (guess that would make me a noob at diy :) ), so would it be safe to say that you are pushing the wall plug right through the aquapanel into the brickwork? Does aquapanel make bigger screws then the...

    installing aquapanels on brick walls

Hi there, I'm hoping I can get some advise on the best way to install the aquapanels. I've searched the forums and came across a couple of different things and have read Wickes aquapanel instructions, and most mention stud partitions and batons, however my walls are brick. I came across...

    hardwood floor onto Concrete floor

why would you glue wood flooring to concrete floor and leave a 10mm gap around the edges for the wood to expand? How can it expand when it's glued down? Would this not ruin the wood flooring when it tries to expand and can't because it's glued?

    Wet Rot / Woodworm advice

The room is 15sqm. I was quoted 3500.00 and 5000.00. I was also told it isn't dry rot, it is wet rot due to condensation, and the reason for that is because the walls and bricks were dry. The bricks were drilled and tested. The wood is infested with woodworm and the easiest would be to...
