Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

See the photo above, terminals 1 & 2. The brown & blue wires (top right) go to the control box and the electromagnetic clutch. I think there is a fault on the circuit board.

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

Update: I connected this capacitor... Across L2-L3 like this... The motor started instantly and ran smoothly without overheating. The capacitor stayed cold. The voltages across the terminal were:- L1/L2 - 230V L2/L3 - 245V L1/L3 - 235V So fairly close but what is the tolerance when...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

Thank you. In this photo I've connected the 240V supply and the live and neutral supply to the control box. Originally the live (brown) wire to the control box was connected to terminal 4 but as that's now redundant it seemed logical to connect it to L2/2 as that is the live supply. Is that...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

This photo shows the supply coming in to (from L to R) - L1 (blue), L2 (brown) & L3 (black). The 3-phase supply to the motor is taken from terminals marked (from L to R) 1-yellow, 2-green, 3-purple, 4-white/yellow & white/green & white/purple (& brown live to the control box). In your...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

As it turns out, although the the clutch motor is very good it isn't as controllable as the Efka so I'd like to give your suggestion a go. The black cable goes to the speed/sewing control box. The wires to the motor go through a hole in the motor casing behind the black connector block. Can you...

Brother Sewing Machine Motor Wiring Question

I've never come across that type of clutch motor, do you have a photo? My understanding is that clutch motors on industrial sewing machines are running constantly whereas the set-up you describe would have the motor switched on and off with the clutch being operated simultaneously. I can see...

Many thanks but I know my shortcomings. I've learnt the hard way that enthusiasm is no substitute for competence :D

Brother Sewing Machine Motor Wiring Question

The foot control for a clutch motor operates the mechanical clutch, not the power supply. The speed of the sewing machine is controlled by feathering the clutch, just like driving a car in bumper to bumper traffic. Could the yellow and white wires be for a condenser? There isn't one inside the...

Brother Sewing Machine Motor Wiring Question

I have a Brother single phase clutch motor with a multi pin connector block on the back. Here is the data plate... Sorry, I don't know why it's upside down - it's the right way up on my lap top. This is the connector block.. I don't have the female plug so I'm not sure how to connect the...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

Here is a photo of the connector box on the 3-phase motor... This looks far too complicated for me to attempt doing anything with safely so I'm going to abandon this motor and run the machine with the single phase motor I picked up last week. That one runs very smoothly... The motor is...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

Sorry, should have said "live" & "neutral". So all I need to do then is swap the jumpers over as per the diagram on the plate? Thanks for the tip on the light socket.

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

I've picked up a single phase clutch motor to get me going until until I can resolve the issue with the original motor. The problem with this one is that it rotates the wrong way. The plate indicates that the rotation can be changed (cambio rotazione = exchange rotation) ... At the moment it...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

If the one in the photo extended it would raise the bed of the sewing machine off the table. The other one would push a bar which isn't connected to anything. The must be something to do with the way the box of tricks controls the sewing/stitching but I've no idea what that might be.

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

Here's a photo showing a black cable coming from the control box to the clutch area of the motor. There was a thicker grey cable from the on/off box to the back of the motor/box but I haven't got a photo showing whether that goes into the rear of the box or the rear of the motor. My memory tells...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

The motor is off the machine now but both are at the workshop so I'll take some more photos when I'm back in there. From memory though, the cable from the on/off switch goes into the back of the box under the motor. Could it be that the motor is driven by 3-phase but the speed controller is...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

Is there an "Idiot's How-to" guide to show how to do this? I found something on Youtube yesterday which seemed to indicate that single phase went to the control box while 3-phase went to the motor. Typically I can't find it again at the moment but I'll keep looking.

Schneider model number = ATV12H075M2 0.75KW. Here is the same unit on the RS website https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/inverter-drives/6695783/ . I'll get back to you on the control box data plate. Please see page 52...

Domestic single phase to 3 phase advice please

This might be relevant to your comment... The white thing on the balance wheel contains a sensor which ensures the machine always stops at the bottom of a stitch ie at the bottom of the needle stroke. Possibly a safety measure. For what I want to do this feature isn't necessary so if it's lost...

Are they still there? I've looked up the address on Google and it looks like an employment agency now.
