    Running water/hissing sound through radiators?!

A few days on. If I leave the rad on in the upstairs bedroom then I still hear the sound of water all the way from the boiler to the bathroom rad next door. If I turn off the bedroom rad and turn off the bathroom rad then there’s no sound. I’m guessing this is because the loop is completely...

I edited it. Walking and typing not my strong point!

    Running water/hissing sound through radiators?!

Soooo adjusting the valve do anything to the noise. The rad did turn on and off though. The strange thing is that I had thought it was running through the radiator- I don’t think that’s the case- it sounds as if it’s running around it!

    Running water/hissing sound through radiators?!

Will try playing around in the morning but I looked at the megaflo and cannot see a hot water cylinder. Could have sworn it had one!

    Running water/hissing sound through radiators?!

I’ve noticed that when I turn the bathroom radiator valve down the hissing almost stops but then seems to start up again. Even when the radiators are not on I can hear that sound

    Running water/hissing sound through radiators?!

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a Valliant boiler and megaflo as opposed to a combi. I don’t think the system has ever been balanced. The radiators are both in the loft and were added to the CH when the loft was built years ago. They’ve hissed ever sense then but I normally can tone it down...

    Running water/hissing sound through radiators?!

Afternoon all. Hope you’ve all had a good Easter. Like many mine was full of house DIY or at least my best attempt. I cannot figure out why my two radiators upstairs are so much noisier than all the rest. It sounds as if water is hissing/running through the when the heating comes on. It’s...

Replacement euro cylinder with thumb turn

Update part2. Soooo after Amazon agreed via email to pay all costs my lovely insurance company wont give me a copy of the invoice or any breakdown. All I know is that they might cover under home emergency OR it might be treated as a claim on home insurance in which case I will have to pay the...

Replacement euro cylinder with thumb turn

Hello everyone. Thanks for your help yesterday. I had to work today which wasn’t ideal timing BUT I discovered that my home insurance has home emergency which covers broken locks. It was a bit of a wait but the locksmith arrived and wasn’t able to remove the key or use the thumb turn. He ended...

Replacement euro cylinder with thumb turn

No the door is fortunately unlocked. I can remove the retaining screw and jiggle it around a fair bit but can’t turn the thumb turn to the point where I can pull the lock through. There’s also a key on the other side stuck there though that could be cut I guess.

Replacement euro cylinder with thumb turn

Yes the retaining screw is back in. The lock was brand new this week. A generic 3 star from Amazon. I noticed that it wasn’t particularly smooth to turn and that the lock did not seem to retract fully. I removed the screw that holds the barrel and tried another longer screw in case that was...

Replacement euro cylinder with thumb turn

Things just got a lot worse. I pushed the lock in bit so it was flushed and now the thumb won’t turn. To make matters worse I put the key in the other side to try and turn the lock from there and the key is stuck. I’ve spent the last hour trying to move it but no luck. I think the only option is...

Replacement euro cylinder with thumb turn

Hi everyone. This is always such a good resource - am hoping to get some advice. I replaced my old cylinder lock on the back door as I’ve not had the keys for years and it’s only 1 star. It’s a 45-45 cylinder though isn’t flush either side- I think I could go 40-40. Either way I ordered a...

Accessing building control plans from 2006

Thanks for the quick reply. I am the original bill payer- hopefully that makes life easier. I contacted the builders but they didn’t have the BC plans and looks as if the architect might have disappeared. Will give them another go tomorrow though. I will also try my luck with Merton BC.

Accessing building control plans from 2006

Hi there I’m in the final stages of having solar panels installed on my dormer roof. I’d like to know before work starts exactly how much weight the roof can support, not how much the solar installers think it can support. I have all the original plans from 2006 and the building regulations...

Integrated fridge door sticking at the top- how to rehang?

Yes that’s a gap at the top right. I didnt consider that the hinge could be distorted though to remove it would still mean removing the integrated cabinet door.

Integrated fridge door sticking at the top- how to rehang?

Evening all This has bugged me for years but it seems to be getting worse. Every time I close my integrated fridge door it catches at the top And I now have to push it harder to close. I realise that is doesn’t help having splashback protruding on the side but originally the door closed flush...

Help! Base under shower is rotten.

Hi there. I posted this in plumbing but not sure that’s the right group. With a few days off this week I decided it was time to be productive and replace the silicone seals around the shower enclosure. No matter how mould resistant the silicone is within a few years it starts to go mouldy...
