No it didn't make a sound. From what I read the grey wire should be permanently live. But see above, I now have a new problem.

And without doing anything else now my boiler won't light. Or click or twitch or any f**k**g thing, it's just dead. It worked before, albeit it cut out. Now there are zero signs of life.

It's definitely a 2 port valve. It's a Drayton. The old one was a sunvic. The old one was 2 port as well. I think one of the wires on the old one was spare. The problem is that it had different colours. There were no grey or orange wires on the old one. That's why I'm a bit confused over what...

@AndyPRK no I just have the one. And the old one had different coloured wires and 6 instead of 5. Hence my confusion!

@The Novice ah that makes sense. I'm not sure what a wiring centre is - it goes to a black plastic junction that also serves the pump. So the grey will go to the same one that the live pump wire goes to you think?
