@JohnD Thanks again mate. Final question, I bought this from selco, do I just knock it up with some building sand?

Patch plastering in a Victorian terrace

@JohnD cheers for the quick reply. That's what I suspected. Looks like lime underneath, and gypsum skim over the top. Should I do the same then?

Patch plastering in a Victorian terrace

Hi, I am renovating a Victorian terrace in Manchester. Some of the plaster was loose, so I have chipped it away. However I'm not sure how to rectify it now. It's at the front of the house, and I am worried about damp forming if I do it wrong. Should I plaster it with hydrated lime or...

    Is this Hygroscopic salts?

@bennymultifinish I'll do that, sounds like the easiest option I've found from my research! And yea, I've been watching a lot of Peter ward videos on YouTube, he's convinced me rising damp isn't as common as it's made out to be.

    Is this Hygroscopic salts?

Thanks guys, not sure its rising damp as its not damp below the floorboards, just on that line across.

    Is this Hygroscopic salts?

1910s victorian mid terrace here. I've got a damp room downstairs, the symptoms of damp are showing up on the chimney breast and the bottom of the walls either side of it. Here are some pics I've taken, I think its salts causing this on the walls, rusting the plaster beading, flaking some of...

    Hole in sub floor

@JohnD In that case theyre pretty choked! Been cleaning them out today, and will fit the periscope vents later this week. Seems the airbricks or lack of them are definitely causing the majority of my problems with the house then.

    Hole in sub floor

The air bricks are inadequete to say the least. They are too high and vent into the skirting boards. I am planning on fitting periscope vents to fix this though. @JohnD choked? @KenGMac Not sure I agree with the hot liquid bitumen, as its quite solid and thick. Kind of like concrete?

    Hole in sub floor

Hi, I live in a victorian mid terrace with suspended wood floors. At the front where the water main comes in, who ever has done it has just cut a hole in the sub floor, into the soil, and pulled the pipe through. The soil smells damp and spreads through the house. Any one got any ideas what...

How do i join this to an mdpe pipe?

@cdbe Thanks a lot for your reply. Thats exactly what I plan on doing now. I have started a complaint with united utilitues and will take it to Offwat. Thats right, I think the best fix will be to replace the lead pipe with mdpe.

How do i join this to an mdpe pipe?

@dilalio thanks for the tip, I've just ordered some bits from Toolstation and will see if that fix holds. @Ian H it's shared by both my neighbours either side of me. Looks like it was once shared by mine as well, but my property was given its own feed at some point in the past. Does that matter?

How do i join this to an mdpe pipe?

@Chris_W I was planning on cutting the lead away and connecting the pipe on the right to an mdpe one. I will have a look at those you mentioned. Thanks. Or taking into consideration @dilalio comments just wondering how I might go about sealing the leaking lead pipe? Its only a very small leak...

How do i join this to an mdpe pipe?

Thanks for the fast reply, I am going to cut the lead, so it is just the metal pipe straight into the mdpe. Would this be ok...

How do i join this to an mdpe pipe?

Hi, I'm sure this would be simple for someone but I'm an amateur plumber and am lost! I have discovered a leak under my floorboards, in the shared mains water pipe. It is part lead, and part metal. It is leaking from the lead section. I want to cut the metal pipe and join it to mdpe, but am...
