    Damp Cellar

Yes the joists are quite new and are fine... me saying "beams" my have been confusing. The rotten wood i'm referring to is where the old window frame is still in the brick. I've marked it out in the attached picture. I've figured I can remove all the paint and crap with a hand scrabbler and...

    Damp Cellar

Hi, My cellar, which has always been a little damp seems to have got much worse over the past few months. During some really bad rain I could actually see it seeping through the walls and pooling up on the floor. I've had the guttering cleared as there was some overspill at the time. I was...

Tap cover cap won't come off

Thanks both. I haven't actually tried unscrewing it rather than popping it off. Maybe if I get a bit of rubber as leverage, lean down on it and unscrew it might work. It's a "round and round to turn it off" kind of tap. I'll also see if i can get a couple of blades under it. Cheers

Tap cover cap won't come off

Hi, I've got a leaky tap so I'm trying to replace the washer in it however I can't get the cover off the top of it. I've attached an image so you can see the tap. I only want to replace the washer so I don't really want to take the whole tap off if I can help it. - There aren't any hidden...

How do I turn this radiator value off?

Oh yeah it does. I can push it down with just my finger. So if I push that down with a decorators cap on it'll stop the water flow?

How do I turn this radiator value off?

Thanks for the response Ian. Can I ask, why would someone put 2 thermostatic radiator valves on a radiator? Is that a common thing to do? Without the cap I'm not going to be able to close the valve - does that mean I'll need to completely drain the system in order to take this radiator off the wall?

How do I turn this radiator value off?

Hi, I'm doing some decorating and need to take a radiator off the wall. I've done this a few times before however I've never seen a lockshield value like this one before where the spindle is completely round. Does anyone have any idea how to tackle this? Thanks in advance

    Lockshield valve

Hi, one of my radiators has the same type of lockshield spindle - its just a round cylinder and not splined. I was wondering how you got on turning it off? What did you do in the end?
