    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

Well, we're going round in circles. I'll have a look at the Activflo unit Bod. Thanks guys!

    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

Ha! IF it was guaranteed to work, I'd be happy to spend BIG! And, yes, it can be fitted very close to the stopcock as that's being replaced. The water emerges under the sink, so the first appliances would be almost immediate.

    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

My quest begineth right here my friend! I didn't want to read any company-biased literature! I have a habit of believing it!? Lol

    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

Interesting! I've been steering clear of the new black bathroom fittings and shower cubicles. I imagine that after being subjected to our hard water, they might stay clean for... a week? The search continues!

    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

Yes, I know that this topic has been covered, but with new devices appearing on the market, I was just wondering if anyone can recommend any of them 'wholeheartedly'? I'll be fitting a new stopcock shortly, and I'd like to fit an anti-scale device at the point of entry in an attempt to protect...

    Spalled Brick Advice

Thanks! It became a labour of love and stole my soul, but other than that it was easy. Ha! The build date was 1951. We converted the roof from standard verge to parapet with dental courses, which made it look slightly ecclesiastical... to me at least. All the spalled bricks were painstakingly...

    Spalled Brick Advice

Yes, super dry. It was early cavity wall construction with no infill ;-) and all new windows had trickle vents. I'll see if I can find a photo...

Cracks in the first floor while building extension

Did they even use strong boy props? I think you're right to be concerned. Take photographs for evidence. If two doors are binding and cracks have appeared, your house has experienced a fair bit of movement/settling. For reference, a few years ago I removed almost half of a cavity gable and...

    Spalled Brick Advice

Oh, and yep, I went below the dpc and even coated the splash courses where accessible. I'm like that.

    Spalled Brick Advice

I've used Thompson's Waterseal in the past, but having read the 'science' behind the Permaguard and Bostik creams, I decided to pay the extra and literally brush it over the entire house. The soft red bricks used to change colour as they absorbed the damp and they would hang wet for weeks on end...

    Spalled Brick Advice

It could be because that area is exposed to the prevailing winds and driving rain. As Berty3000 suggests, get the chimney and roof looked at first! It appears to me that your mortar is harder than your bricks, which isn't good. The mortar should be the sacrificial element. You can have the...

    Outward opening doors? Nah!

    I can't. It's too late.

    Outward opening doors? Nah!

I'll spec a 30mm aluminium threshold, but given earlier comments, I was thinking that a tall threshold might be better in the event of a volcanic eruption. Keeps the lava out! Haha!

    Outward opening doors? Nah!

    Haha! Noooo!

    Outward opening doors? Nah!

Thanks for getting the vibe back on track guys! Looks as if we might have settled on a sliding patio door! All comments appreciated! Well, almost all... Ha! ;-)

    Outward opening doors? Nah!

Well Ellal, for what it's worth, I'm sorry to hear that. It must have been a very painful experience.

    Outward opening doors? Nah!

Also, my wife doesn't intend to use her 2.5m x 3.5m she-shed as a night club. There could potentially be a stampede of... two, if a wasp goes after the scones and jam!!
