This news has made a dreary looking day that little bit brighter. Thank you.

    Farrow & Ball - 1st time user

Thanks for the advice :) I actually did exactly that yesterday funnily enough! I went to my local B&Q last night for a Valspar colour match on Ammonite - Unfortunately though they weren't able to match very well and the matched sample is very washed out and lifeless compared the the F&B. It...

Well thanks for not reading my post and yet giving your undesired opinion nonetheless. I genuinely can't think of a better use of your time.

So the wife wants F&B for her home office and therefore that's what she'll have, there's no changing her mind on the matter lol. I know there are a lot of people who dislike using F&B paint for various reasons, but this is for her own little space so who am I to judge! My question is this -...

    Repairing wall after removing skirting

If I do this, I'm assuming I'll have to fit the nee skirting with an adhesive like No More Nails as I can't imagine being able to drive screws/nails into the hardened foam? The foam looks quite porous - can I use adhesives on it once it sets?

    Repairing wall after removing skirting

Thanks so much for the advice guys, I really appreciate it! :D With my limited skill set, I think the expanding foam idea will be the simplest solution, so I'll give that a go! :)(y)

    Repairing wall after removing skirting

Thanks John, The walls are brick and plaster, but after removing the skirting it looks like the internal walls have been built using wood as a base (I wasn't aware that was common practice, but then this whole DIY game is completely new to me!). The wood is present at the bottom of both the...

    Repairing wall after removing skirting

I've been left with missing plaster at the bottom of my walls after removing my old skirting boards, and as an utter DIY novice I'm a bit unsure how to tackle this. The gap is 20-30mm deep in most places, although in a couple of spots it's about 40mm deep. Now that the old skirting is gone, I...

    Magnaclean Filter leaking brown sludge

My BG Homecare 400 contract covers the full heating system, but this was just an annual boiler service. The engineer noted on the paperwork that he had checked the filter, which I guess is why it started leaking water immediately after his visit. BG have reluctantly agreed to come back on the...

    Magnaclean Filter leaking brown sludge

Thanks Harry, I know for a fact it was clean as a whistle on the day of the service because I checked it and that when I discovered it was leaking (clean) water. That leak dried up after a couple of days - the engineer said it was normal for some residual water to leak out following a filter...

    Magnaclean Filter leaking brown sludge

Ah cr@p... I was afraid you might say that! He was only in here for maybe 5mins max, and definitely didn't open it up. He looked at it, wiped it down and tightened the cap and reckoned that it should be ok... :( I'll get back onto British Gas (shudder..) and see if they can come back before...

    Magnaclean Filter leaking brown sludge

I reached out to the engineer who visited to do the service last month - he had left me his mobile number. To his credit, he turned up at 8am today. He had a look at it and he believes it may be "some sort of lubricant that was in the top to protect the O ring", because it's the consistency of...

    Magnaclean Filter leaking brown sludge

Oh really? Is it as simple as that? :D I automatically assumed something must be broken, or a maybe seal got damaged - or something else beyond my remit lol

    Magnaclean Filter leaking brown sludge

I had an annual service on my boiler early last month under my British Gas Homecare policy. Immediately after the engineer left, I noticed water leaving from the Magnaclean filter (about 18 months old). I text the engineer right away but it took him a few days to reply as it was the weekend...
