    Filling old hinge cut outs

Come at it from the opposite direction - get a piece of timber that is roughly the right thickness - any of the big DIY outlets will have stripwood that will work, then cut the rebate in the door frame to a depth that fits, all you need for this tool wise is a sharp chisel - leave it 1/2mm proud...

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

You are right... My initial assumption was that in a fused spur the CPC was not continuous i.e. you turn the switch to 'off' and it disconnects all three conductors, I assumed that the functionality being provided was to totally isolate everything on the load side of the switch. If you have no...

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

Thanks Rocky, the supply side earth terminal on the faceplate is linked to the post in the back box. Third core of the SWA is in the load side earth terminal. Banjo on the gland is also in the load side earth side terminal. I think it is all ok.

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

Ok - the earth from the SWA goes into the CPC terminal on the load side of the faceplate, at the moment there is a link from the banjo into the same terminal. So, if the faceplate is taken off there is still earth connectivity both sides of the switch. SWA > Load side terminal > load side...

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

Thanks, so the CPC being continuous through the box is as designed, just something to be aware of when testing? The back box has 2 fixed lugs so I thought that was sufficient for the faceplate?

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

I hope I can explain this properly - here goes... 13A Fused spur in a metal clad box, surface mounted. 2.5mm PVC singles on the supply side entering the box. 2.5mm three core SWA on the load side leaving via a standard gland. So - Line, Neutral & CPC in either side of the fused spur - easy...

    Quick-Step Lyvin Vinyl

Thanks Daz - that's what I figured. Nice to have it confirmed though. I have another fitter coming this afternoon, let's see what he advises.

Thanks Bob - If you have the time, what is the difference??

    Quick-Step Lyvin Vinyl

Hi Guys, We have had a quote from a local flooring guy to replace the flooring in our breakfast room and he has suggested Quick-Step Lyvin Vinyl. The sub floor is floorboards which are in pretty good condition for being over 100 years old, however, there are quite large gaps between the...

Thanks Sammy - interesting. Reading back through some old posts, your comments about Atlas CopCo seem about right. I might stick with what I know.

What timber for decking ledgers, joists, noggins etc?

Interesting... And thanks for the pics. What does the team think about the view (mainly from the US I think) that face fixing to 4x4 posts is the work of the devil and the posts should be notched to house the joists? I think I see the point but I am not sure...

Need help choosing a petrol "strimmer" for allotments

After a couple of disasters (who mentioned McCulloch, certainly not me!) a couple of years ago I took advice and bought a Stihl FS40. This is it's third season and it is still as good as new. Spend some time keeping it clean, always use good oil and petrol additives and at the end of every...

    Another wood filler question

I spent last week doing a similar job. IMHO, the only way to do this is to chop out the rot until you get to good wood, square off the cavity and then fit replacement timber in. Glue it and screw it, then use some two part filler to tidy it up. Otherwise the rot will return (well, it never...

    Worktop: Granite? Quartz? Max-Top?

For anyone to give you an idea of weight, they would need some accurate sizes... So... The average density of granite is between 2.65 and 2.75 g/cm3 (165.4 - 171.7 lb/ft3). Let's say 2.7 g/cm3 as we don't know about your specific type of granite. Calculate the surface area, multiply by the...

    Worktop: Granite? Quartz? Max-Top?

I think this is one area where I wouldn't DIY. Spend the money, get a professional kitchen design professionally built and it will last you forever (well, not forever, but you know what I mean). We spent a fortune on this kitchen, but averaged over its entire life, it is peanuts. It is as...

    Worktop: Granite? Quartz? Max-Top?

We have granite which was installed nearly 20 years ago (where does the time go?) it is as good now as the day it was fitted. In fact we are trying to work out how to refresh the units while retaining the worktops with as little fuss as possible. Granite every time.

    Evolution Rage - Rumours?!?

Screwfix are short - Toolstop have 4 in stock - Anglia Tool Centre only two remaining - just got me thinking... So... If not a Rage then what would you go for that isn't going to cost me Festool type prices?

    Evolution Rage - Rumours?!?

Hi Guys, Anybody got any inside info? Stocks of the Evolution Rage 3 DB seem to be dwindling around the main suppliers with only a few left. Are they about to 'End of Life' it? Is there an upgrade/revamp around the corner? Do I chase the last few, or do I wait a month? Anybody know...
