    4.2Kw Oven install

To be fair, the only cable that will ever run near it's rated load is the existing 6mm trunked supply for the radial, that is protected by a 32A MCB. My proposed extension will only be able to pull a fraction of the rating for 2.5mm. Am I missing something?

    4.2Kw Oven install

OK, so I get a roll of 6mm cable to run from thenew double cooker connection and round the kitchen. Will that arrangement of extending the original circuit keep me in step with the local authority and safety regulation?

    4.2Kw Oven install

Taking a look at what you're discussing I think I see the problem, but as we've already ascertained here, I'm no electrician. The wire from the CU to the current cooker connection is 6mm and on a 32A MCB. This connection I now plan to swap to a double cooker connection. The hob is rated max 20A...

    4.2Kw Oven install

Ah, I see - so am I allowed to take a connection from the hob and run cable from it round the kitchen to the oven socket? I'm looking to see if there are dedicated sockets that allow this...

    4.2Kw Oven install

The hob is 32A/6mm, but the oven and hob are on different sides of the kitchen.

    4.2Kw Oven install

EFLImpudence, thanks for your reply. Nothing else will be on this circuit. The hob is on separate radial. So although 32A MCB and 6 mm cable are standard, do I break and rules or risk safety by using the 2.5 and 20A MCB?

    4.2Kw Oven install

Hi All, Can someone clear up some confusion for me please? I'd like to install a 4.2 Kw oven and grill. I calculate that this will pull a maximum of 17.5 amps. As I understand it (...and I'm willing to be corrected), 2.5 mm twin and earth is rated at 27 amps in conditions where it is clipped...

Large patch for lime plaster over brick

Thanks for the suggestions. I eventually cut a piece of plasterboard as tight a fit as I could make and skimmed with multi finish. So many other jobs in the house have turned into major episodes and I wanted a quick win, LOL. I do know that lime plaster would have been for the best, and if this...

Large patch for lime plaster over brick

Hi All, Quick one - I've got the inside of an exterior wall with a large patch (about 1m square) that needs patching. The bare brick is sound, but the edges of the lime plaster are a bit crumbly. I really don't want the job to turn into anything too big. As such I've brushed it clean and...

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

There's currently only about 140mm between the top of the sand and the bottom of the skirting boards. I might gain a little extra when it's compacted, but I'm guessing not much, considering I'll have to add a bit more to blind. Considering that some of that would be the finish flooring, I don't...

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

Quick update. Had Building Control in today. They were very unhappy with what the builder has done, as expected. On the bright side though, they were also super helpful, and I got a lot of useful information from them. I'm embarking on the work myself, which will consist of removing a lot of the...

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

@Notch7 I'm just pricing up the materials left on site. Can you tell from the pictures if it is really Celotex, and if so which of their products it is? From a search it looks like it's maybe TC3120, which is specified as flat roofing insulation. The packaged boards have no markings other than...

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

Hi All. I will be terminating my contract with the builder. I'm getting some independent opinion on the cost of work so far, but I would appreciate it if someone could chime in with a ball park figure for the following work, not including cost of materials, which I have receipts for: 1. Removal...

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

@Mr Chibs Thank you. I can't wait to get stuck into it. I'm no expert, but I'm guessing a small brick dwarf wall to hold it up. There's a staircase on the other side. The builder claimed this morning that he was going to take them out. I asked him why he turned my DPC into spaghetti in that...

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

Quick update. I've voiced my concerns to the builder. Unsurprisingly the relationship seems to be failing. I spoke to building control as well this morning. They have the application and a site visit is being arranged. BC were super helpful btw, and have encouraged me to go ahead and do it...

@A Trowel Am I going to get a slap on the wrist from the BCO or worse? @sxturbo Indeed. Job done properly and all that. Thanks guys, I'm feeling a little more positive about this now.

Is this OK? Concrete floor install.

@A Trowel Thank you for that nugget. I will be calling building control first thing and asking them to make a visit. One question - Should I have been informed of this by my builder? @sxturbo I think you are right. I only employed him to do this because I had my hands full with other things...
