    Can I Isolate This Setup?

Yes, that's what the guy did. He was very friendly and didn't at all mind me sitting next to him going "Are you allowed to remove that big fuse", "what's that bit for", "what are you doing now" etc. etc.

    Can I Isolate This Setup?

Oh - my smart-meter guy provided the isolator as well.

    Can I Isolate This Setup?

When I had my smart meter fitted last year, I asked for an isolator to be fitted as well. The guy was happy to do it for free, but wouldn't have done so if I hadn't asked.

    Growly motor noise under bath

I don't think the flexible connections to the pump are supposed to be used like that. They're just there to absorb vibration and should be almost straight. Having them bent more than 90 degrees like that one at the back is a big mistake.

    Fan assistance for radiators.

We had our 40-year old c/h system replaced with a combi boiler + all new radiators. The old system had a huge cast-iron boiler in the kitchen which, while inefficient, heated the kitchen itself. The new system had one radiator at one end of the kitchen with the result that the other end of the...

    Exposed terminal out in street

Well, that's bad news. Cos it's directly opposite an infants school! But why no live (i.e. Red) wire coming up from below?

    Exposed terminal out in street

Hi there, This is not DIY related, but I wondered what you think of this. The pictured box is at the end of my road, I think it was installed for a ULEZ camera, but there's never been one on the pole that it's next to. The cover was smashed off, and I guess someone tried to cover it up with...

    Battersea explosion: Unvented cylinder?

Is this the result of an unvented cylinder exploding? i.e. gas not involved at all, just the pressure in the system? https://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/23715974.elsley-road-battersea-explosion-two-houses-left-damage/

    Real time electricity usage monitor

I have a current transformer on my supply leads hooked up to a Raspberry Pi PicoW. It calculates the power drawn simply by amps*230V. It also has an LDR which counts the 'flashes' from the electric meter (One flash = 1Wh used). Well, it's interesting, especially as the PF isn't taken into...

Condensate pipe frozen / no syphon action?

I'm afraid I must own up to that! The pipe originally had an elbow so that it emptied properly into the gutter. When it first froze, I thought that the restriction was causing the blockage and that a 'straight run' would reduce the chances of it freezing. So I chopped the end off and added the...

Condensate pipe frozen / no syphon action?

That's what we thought when it was installed, but it still did.

Condensate pipe frozen / no syphon action?

In the recent cold snap (Down to -8C here), my condensate pipe froze. The external pipe has quite a long run - about 3m, but it has a steep drop - maybe 1m in that distance and the external pipe is 42mm diameter. I was quite worried about it during the installation, so I had a plan 'B' rigged -...

    Fluoresent or LED

I've been reading this thread and I'm a bit puzzled! A while ago, the 4' tube in my kitchen blew. After consulting the 'experts' in my local, I replaced it with a "Philips G13 T8 LED Tube 1600lm 16W 1200mm" from Screwfix - £12.99. It's much brighter, lights instantly and actually seems to...

    Smart Meters 'forced' on people?

How does that actually work? Never had a pre-payment or smart-meter (Probably never will now), but I thought with a pre-payment meter you had a 'key' type thing that you took to the corner shop for a top-up, then plugged it in to the meter. Do smart meters have a 'keyhole' for that? Or what?

    Are new radiators more efficient?

Whatever you want to call it, there's no doubt that my new rads are "better" than the old. The old ones had to be scorching before the rooms were comfortable, the new ones are just a bit more than 'pleasantly warm' for the same result.

    Are new radiators more efficient?

I had a complete new system installed last summer - boiler, rads and all pipework. The previous system was probably 40 years old. When the first cold weather arrived, I thought there was a problem as the radiators weren't getting hot - strange thing is, the house was still nice and warm. When...
