    Boiler/heating issue

Another update on my end - the hoses were replaced and the boiler and the system is working fine (for more than 24 hours now). I have a question though on the work carried out last Friday - when the engineer left on Friday afternoon, the boiler was left with the lid open - is this allowed? I...

    Boiler/heating issue

The boiler is an old Baxi Solo model - there were 2 hoses (orange) that were changed - in fact the old hoses were pretty much falling apart.

    Boiler/heating issue

Yeah, the initial "specialists" already have sent me the invoice and I need to get back to them - not sure I will be able to argue successfully about the unneeded work (I bet they will say their engineers considered these were the right things to do) but I will deff chase them for today's bill.

    Boiler/heating issue

A major update from today - after considering the options and lack of proper tools/time and sufficient knowledge, I contacted another plumber to come and take a look at the system. He had a very good idea what happened after the first two bits that I mentioned - changing the central heating pump...

No strong magnet at hand, will try to get one tomorrow...

    Boiler/heating issue

OK - my apologies, I have to admit I have made a mistake by providing a picture of the cold water cistern and not the F&E one. I am attaching an updated picutre where it seems things are far from ideal. Please correct me if I am wrong but this potentially means a blockage which can be cleared...

    Boiler/heating issue

Following some further investigating I can see that the pipe with the red gate valve goes down from one of the tanks in the loft and goes in the tanks - from what I have seen on diagrams, it appears to be feeding the tank with cold water, which is to be warmed by the coil.

    Boiler/heating issue

Do you mean radiator bleeding or should I be looking at another bleed valve/stopcock?

    Boiler/heating issue

OK, I can see how this may cause issues, not sure if I will be able to check this though as I have limited tools and knowledge... also this is something that the second engineer worked on, which means it is covered by the guarantee the company provides. I will check if I can do this easily...

    Boiler/heating issue

OK, you are right that I am not certain if the actual valve is moving properly (as per what the actuator shows). But please correct me if I am wrong here - when I looked at the diagrams and how the actuator and valve moves, it seems to me that it is not possible for the flow to be blocked. It...

    Boiler/heating issue

Yep, the valve works fine now, capable to switch to all three positions.

    Boiler/heating issue

From what I recall it was capable to move to heating and combined, but not to hot water only.

    Boiler/heating issue

That was done without my knowledge and I only got to know this post replacement. The motorised valve issue I saw with my eyes, the valve was only able to go to 2 out of 3 positions irrespective of the call from the programmer. But it worked fine prior to installation of the pump so I am...

    Boiler/heating issue

I was under the impression that the actuator was changed together with the valves. Upon closer inspection it looks like the valves are not new (they do look different/newer than the other piping so that may have confused me that these were changed). I am attaching 2 pics of the actuator and the...

    Boiler/heating issue

I am attching 2 pics showing the pump when working. This is how it looks when running, irrespective of the heating setting. The pump setting is at constant curve 3 (factory setting and also recommended for venting the pump). Up until now I wasn't able to find a way to bleed the pump - as it is...

    Boiler/heating issue

I will try to open the pump, I opened the old one, seemed straight forward but not sure with this one, I will check it out. We have not bled the pump out, but I was reassured that the installers did it (they bled the radiators too). As you can imagine I then bled them out several more times. In...

    Boiler/heating issue

I am a bit unclear on the pump itself - trying to understand something (warning for a stupid question). Is there any circulation at all if the boiler is not working? I mean not the pump working, but water being circulated? The reason why I am asking this is - when I reset the boiler and fires...

    Boiler/heating issue

So perhaps the pics I uploaded may have been a bit unclear. On pic 1 on my previous post there is no leak/dripping from the red valve or anywhere nearby. The only leak is on pic 2 from my previous post (i.e. the drain cock). I will upload several pics here to try to show the system/pipes. I am...

    Boiler/heating issue

Thanks a lot for this - I did now have a much closer look how the system is designed to work. In any case, here are the updates: - checked the pump valves - open and as they should be; - the pump was installed correctly (in terms of direction of the water flow); - the motorised valve works fine...

    Boiler/heating issue

I am attaching the pic of the boiler and (forgive my ignorance) have a couple of questions I am not clear about: - should both pipes above the boiler be hot? When the boiler starts, the left one is getting hot but I think the right one is just warm and not too hot. - should the central heating...
