How do I remove fixed casement

Hi Volvomanx, I had a pretty productive weekend working on one of the bays. Free'd up the openers and stripped them back along with the frame they sit in. Applied some primer and undercoat and tried my hand with some puttying too. I've resorted to using rot hardener then filler, I'm happy...

How do I remove fixed casement

Bump. I'm working on these windows again, any input on how the fixed casements would have been originally installed and tips (non barbaric) regarding their removal would be great.

Hinge type used on original 30’s timber casements? Pic added

Hi foxhole, thanks for the reply but that’s not right type of hinge I'm afraid. They say a picture says a thousand words so I've attached an image. I've looked around using google etc and cant seem to find the name, I just thought some well seasoned joiners might know the name of them...

Hinge type used on original 30’s timber casements? Pic added

Hi, I’m undergoing a bit of a chore in stripping back the original timber framed casement windows in our 1930’s home. That aside, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the upstairs side hung opening casements are fitted with what looks at first glance like a T hinge, however, once the years...

How do I remove fixed casement

Hi volvomanx, I've not made much progress on this, the 'boss' was on my back to get on with more important jobs. I did claw out the filler on the inside of the window between the frame and one of the casements. I could see a single piece of metal (a chunky nail I assume) at the centre of...

How do I remove fixed casement

Hi volvoman, I like your inquisitiveness. I'm going to paint strip the exterior of at least one of the fixed casements, I'll let you know if I find anything there. I know from another (non-bay) window on my house that filler/putty has been used between the base of the casement and the base of...

How do I remove fixed casement

I'd like to know too, for the exact same reason, only, my windows were fitted in the 30's. I've stripped the window on the inside back to bare wood, I can’t see any nails (or filler) which would hit to fixing from the inside. I'm yet to strip the outer surface.... Opened a can of worms...

    Double Glazing Advice

Thanks for the quick reply. What kind of money are we talking here? I would prefer the look of wood for the interior side of the door.

    Double Glazing Advice

Option 2 it is then. I thought that might be the answer. John, we were going to go for a UPVC door to eliminate the draughts that we get at the back atm (I've fitted draught excluder to no avail). With regards the looks, it’s just a yard at the back so no one will see it  . How weak...

    Double Glazing Advice

I’m about to start looking around to have double glazing fitted to my property so I’m just looking for a bit of advice. A few months back there was a double glazing van outside, the guy was doing some work next door so I ask him roughly how much it would cost to DG my property etc. He told...
