    unfortunately the way the door are installed, we have to open the other outer door first then the door that hits the inner door. I'll take a look in to a smaller door handle and see where that takes me. i was just hoping to remove it completely. I think it may be too much of a mess to fix that...

    Thank you for the reply, i didnt think of that. no it doesnt. it just locks the handle in place. Ive had another look and I've found that the locking mechanism locks at the bottom and top of the door. the middle latch (the sticky out bit) gets locked in place as well. it also partially locks...
