What are the best smart thermostats for flats? Nest? Hive? Honeywell?

To use Vaillants ebus you will need controls form the page below......... https://www.vaillant.co.uk/product-systems/smart-controls/view-all-controls/ They aren't cheap but if you buy a Vaillant boiler you need Vaillant controls. Alternatively you could use simple on/off controls which are...

    Combining different systems

In my case I was looking at using HA with my Wiser heating controls. There is a Wiser integration for HA but it still needed a bit of YAML to get things to look and work how i wanted. In the end I gave up! If anyone is looking for a simple plug n play home automation system then HA isnt it IMO.

    Combining different systems

I've used HA. There is a huge steep learning curve to get the best out of it and you will need an in depth knowledge of YAML programming language. I used HA for a few weeks and then gave up as it was just too time consuming.

Stumped - closely coupled cistern has no holes for donut bolt-on kit

All my pans connect to the cistern like this. You push the flush valve through the cistern hole and using the flush valves large plastic nut to attach the metal donut ring to the flush valve. The rubber donut is then squash between the pan and the cistern and bolted down.

    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

What do you consider to be a "significant amount of salt" and a "non-trivial amount of water"? Modern water softeners use very little of either these days (according to their specifications).

    Vaillant system with 2 boilers

Are you sure the 728 is for DHW? I ask because the outside temp sensor which you say is connected to the 728 should be controlling the flow temp of the CH boiler.

Replacement thermostat that I can control remotely.

Your boiler supports Opentherm so hopefully the existing thermostat is connected correctly but there's a good chance that the original installer didnt even know what Opentherm was.

    Do anti-scale devices ACTUALLY work?

I remember many years ago when i was a child my mother always had a stainless steel ball of mesh in the kettle. Seemed to work.

Implications of heavy boiler corrosion for pipework?

My boiler had been serviced by British Gas under a Homecare contract for the last 8 years, I have now cancelled the contract and had a service carried out by a local heating company. The local company didn't do anything different to British Gas!

Drayton Wiser app update 6.9.0 and hubr 3.18.0

Just noticed that the hubr has also had an update to 3.18.0 and the Wiser trv's are updated to 0.62.0. No updates for room stats, yet. I wish Schneider would tell us what the updates add or fix.

New installation proposed using 2 manifolds for zoned UFH and zoned First Floor rads

A combi boiler will be very over powered when you consider that, reportedly, 80% of UK properties have a heat loss of less than 8kw. Is there nowhere that you can fit a HW cylinder?

New installation proposed using 2 manifolds for zoned UFH and zoned First Floor rads

What is the heat loss of the property? This will determine boiler output.

Drayton Wiser app update 6.9.0 and hubr 3.18.0

There's nothing to dislike, its just a shame that we don't get better updates with more features added.

Drayton Wiser app update 6.9.0 and hubr 3.18.0

Has anyone updated their app to todays release (6.9.0)? I have and its rather underwhelming! We now have signal strength indicators for all the devices and a dark mode. Glad to see Schneider app development team haven't been totally sitting on their hands all these months, its a shame we still...

Sanity check on improving slapdash heating setup

Im just a diyer so others will comment further I'm sure ......... The red gate valve is there to control the flow through the HW cylinder and needs to stay in place. With a bit of repiping you could fit a mid position valve just under the pump and have a y plan system. This will need wiring but...

    Cylinder and Legionella

It’s seems like a waste of energy to heat water in the cylinder and then add cold water to cool it back down. Especially when, allegedly, there has not been a single instance of legionella reported in the UK due to a domestic water system.

Some initial observations on the use of smart trvs on all the rads. (Zero zoning)

No, you really want the valve to be energised for HW.

Some initial observations on the use of smart trvs on all the rads. (Zero zoning)

Sorry I don’t know, give Drayton a call as they are pretty good at picking up the call.

Help Required ... 3 Way Valve not always switching to Hot Water

There is an argument for having the HW schedule separate from the CH schedule to improve boiler efficiency.
