    Insulation Question (Warm Roof)

Ceiling is already off. Yeah it looks a lot better. Bottom of joist is 1.98 (gained 12mm from removing plasterboard) so no lowering your head. Will paint the joists and make a feature of them. Any thoughts on the insulation?

    Insulation Question (Warm Roof)

There are joists on the ceiling. I've taken off the plasterboard to expose them. There is now a 170mm gap from bottom of joist to deck above. Plan is to add insulation (25/50mm) and plasterboard over the insulation. This will be held in place with battens which I will attach to the joists. This...

    Insulation Question (Warm Roof)

Hi, I have a question regarding regarding a a warm roof and adding some additional insulation underneath. We have upstairs dormer extension which is used a a home office (small room ca. 2m x 2m). The roof height is very low (probably 1.9m) so I have taken the plasterboard off to get the height...

Use a twin coil unvented cylinder with boiler only

Looks like a great setup! So in the top coil. Out the return. In the top coil of the other coil and out the bottom return?

Use a twin coil unvented cylinder with boiler only

Yeah I think how the solar works is the bottom coil is for Solar and the top one is for boiler (or other source). The bottom coil is usually bigger. Some setups have timers on only heating the upper coil during the day and both coils in the morning/evening when there is more demand. However, if...

Use a twin coil unvented cylinder with boiler only

Great stuff. Have you found (well I guess you can’t compare to what it was before) that it works well? I think the extra coil means you have the option of adding solar thermal if indeed it became viable. But in the meantime getting the faster heat time

Use a twin coil unvented cylinder with boiler only

Thanks for this. What would you say is best. I’m assuming having all part of the same ‘heat up’ system (i.e. not having it programmed separately) is the most straight forward? Would that be your preference? Thanks

Use a twin coil unvented cylinder with boiler only

That’s great to hear. Would you install them in parallel or in sequence? Any experience with the OSO delta twin coil? Thanks

Use a twin coil unvented cylinder with boiler only

Hi all, I have a query about a twin coil solar cylinder. I’ve seen some information online that it can be more efficient and lead to faster reheat times to use both coils with a single boiler...

    Which indirect unvented cylinder

So I looked at the literature just now (tried to share a screenshot but the file is too big apparently). The 250l is actually 239l in that model. They quote a V40 L of 355l. Not sure where the value comes from. The recovery time is 34 mins and hear you time is 48 mins. Heat loss is 1.92...

    Which indirect unvented cylinder

Yeah it didn’t make sense what the guy way saying. I said you’d mix at point of use anyway. He suggested that you get more when mixed at source. Does that make sense?

    Which indirect unvented cylinder

I had a chat to OSO and the guy said both Megaflo and OSO are very good (refreshing to hear that). He recommended a supercoil 250 as it has an integral mixing valve so the volume of 40 degree hot water is 355 litres (tank heats to 60 degrees). It's a C rated cylinder but keeps everything neat as...

    Which indirect unvented cylinder

Hi all this is a follow on thread from a post regarding new combi or invented cylinder. I have decided on an unvented cylinder and keeping the existing boiler. I’d like to have the option of solar in the future. This would either be by PV (not sure I’ll have the roof space) or thermal. I’m...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

Thanks for this. I called up OSO to enquire about the twin coil version of their cylinder and they say they are phasing out the twin coil as the demand has dropped. The technical guy recommended just getting a standard cylinder and using PV to heat the water via the immersion when required in...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

Many thanks John. It took me a minute work out the C/kwh then I realised you're in Ireland/Cork! :) I'm a Cork man myself living over in Edinburgh so nice to get advice from another Cork man! Yeah I think if I go with Megaflo then the 300 litre tank is a no brainer as cheaper to buy and I have...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

Thanks for this. I'm in Edinburgh Scotland. Is it an issue with hard water that it would cause this issue. The water up here is soft so if hard water causes the issue then it should be OK? Would you stay clear of a Megaflo? What would you recommend instead. I had an Albion Ultra steel which was...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

I've decided on a Heatrae Sadia Megaflo Eco 250SI Unvented Indirect Solar Cylinder. I want the solar option so I can future proof it. My plumber recommended this as being a really good cylinder with the expansion tank built in etc. (get what you pay for etc.). Now the 250 litre (which is what...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

I'm happy with Unvented option as I really miss pressure from my last house. Also taking out tank in the loft frees up more storage space and the ability to extend (i.e. not having to take out new plumbing) is a plus for me. Does anyone know if it's only G3 certification for an unvented...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

I'm definitely going with the existing boiler and adding a new UVC. Any recommendations on a cylinder? I had an Albion Ultra-steel in the last property and it was fine. If looking at future proofing is there a type of cylinder which can use for solar hot water going forward or will any cylinder...

    New Combi or Unvented Cylinder

Thanks for all the replies. I had an unvented cylinder in my last house so happy with how they run and like having the pressurised system. I think the UVC next to the boiler is the best option as there is space there. The garage will always remain garage so that won't change. We had a 250l in...
