Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

Well this is a lot of fun ! I leave you guys alone for five minutes, and come back to find total war has broken out! Taking the risk of re-igniting the war, i just thought you guys might like to know that the x400 is now eradicated, and replaced with inhibitor, and no leaks to date...

Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

An update on this topic, first posted 9 months ago. As mentioned in one of my posts, the x400 was put into the system. Weather got warmer, forgot about the problems over the summer, and have been too busy to revisit the problem. But a couple of weeks ago, hey presto, the heating works...

Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

Thanks for all the help so far guys. Chrishutt was of course quite correct in saying that fitting a gate valve was a waste of time, but having drained down to check the anti gravity valve, I thought I might as well put one in. No improvement so far then, a couple of tubs of X400 are going...

Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

Clearly manifolds were too expensive for whover put this system in, they branch of the 15mm pipe with tees!

One other thing I forgot to mention last night. The upstairs rads can only be bled if the CH is off. If CH is on - no flow!

Interesting. We had a quote for this from one of the 'team' before we did the rads - £350. Knowing we had these weird rads with corroded internal pipes, we decided that on its own, it was unlikely to work. We were told they would flush the system, then run chemicals for a few days, then...

Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

Things are livening up now ! Again I agree, gravity hot water systems are crap, I guess you are suggesting we keep the existing boiler but upgrade the design. ACOperson is correct, the boiler frequently cuts out as the heat is not travelling. So is the consensus now that we have...

They are suggesting a Baxi, 105E I think. Mains pressure is ok here, but I think I will try the lockshield valve first. Thanks

Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

Thanks guys There is no gate valve on the hot water side. The return pipe gets a little warm, not hot. But the good news, at least it is a 2 pipe system! I agree about the gate valve though, I am considering fitting one myself this weekend, as you say to test if the rads heat up. They...

Is my plumbers advice correct- Faulty Central Heating System

Hi guys Here is the system: Vented system. Boiler is Ideal Concord WRS 255A, 55,000 btu Gravity feed hot water. Pumped central heating, the pump fitted on the return pipe. I am told the boiler has one heat exchanger shared by both the hot water & central heating. There is not a 2...
