Lol! Well I’ve now had Thames Water get back to me and they’re now contacting the secretary of the village hall to confirm if they have an account or not. They get 3 chances to reply to 3 letters and if they don’t respond or confirm then they automatically set up an account for them and they’ll...

Damned right! And when they bully, use emotional blackmail and spy on us and our children then I think we’re quite justified to put these people back in their box…..

Read my response on the post that brought this up, all will be clear…

    Shared water supply

Lol! If you knew where the village hall was, with no parking and a long walk for anyone who was sad enough to attend the once monthly coffee morning you’d know that wasn’t a concern. If you also knew how the chair/secretary of the village hall committee (who we coincidentally found out used to...

That doesn’t work, you can ask for your council tax rate/band to be reviewed but the old rates system isn’t used anymore, seemingly only by the water companies (as in water rates) and the organisation who calculated/managed these has apparently been disbanded…..we’re not all as stupid as you...

The rateable value, from my understanding, was calculated way back prior to the two properties being divided, with ours being sold off. From what I can ascertain the rateable value has never been altered to reflect this and so I believe we’re receiving a higher bill than necessary under this...

OK, so are you saying put a meter just on their supply that branches off of our pipe work inside our house? If that’s allowed then that’s maybe something I can tell them I will do if they don’t register with Thames Water……

Yeah, add in the context of the fact that the village hall secretary was an ex work colleague (teacher) of my other half and that she used this to bully her and used emotional blackmail in an attempt to get her to do what she wanted us to do whilst in a private meeting in the village hall last...

    Shared water supply

That’s useful to know…..so you have a private agreement entered into by both parties….my point on one of my other replies was that the village hall are unlikely to enter into such an agreement on the water supply unless forced to do so. They’re quite happy sponging.

Trouble is we have a feeling they do know there is a stop cock inside our home or at least there is a chance they do from previous dealings with our predecessors. Not so sure they would know exactly where it was and we’d plead ignorance. I’d love to turn it off completely given their attitude...

Yes but those properties/flats would be registered with the water company or you’d have a separate rental agreement etc covering water charges. A village hall isn’t going to accept being charged by me as I’m neither a landlord nor a water company. We are two separate entities sharing a supply...

So, yes, we did have all of the searches done as is usual. The searches did raise the issue of the septic tank but the seller wasn’t prepared to enter into any new negotiations with the village hall at the point of selling. We knew it was shared but it wasn’t an issue that was going to prevent...

    Shared water supply

That’s a thought but I’m not sure on the legality of turning off someone else’s water for two weeks while I go on holiday even if it’s just a village hall…

    Shared water supply

Not sure that’s even legal is it? It’s a shared supply, I can’t just set up my own water company! Lol! You’d need Thames Water buy in as well as there’s, not going to happen…

    Shared water supply

That’s good news, unlikely to happen at our gaff, we have a one acre garden and a family of 6……hence my reluctance to go on a meter if at all possible…

    Shared water supply

Ok, that’s interesting, so you’re saying you can get a meter fitted but then demand to pay by rateable value? You say a year or two to decide? Do you mean a year before you can ask to go back to a rateable value charging system? However I’m interested as to how Thames Water would know to put a...

    Shared water supply

I suspect you’re right and being on rateable value is probably better than being on a meter with a large garden and family….such a con though isn’t it? We already get a reduction for a septic tank and a soak away for our surface drainage so at least we have that. But this isn’t just about the...

    Shared water supply

Hi, the properties were split in 1964 but we’ve only been in 4 months. You make a good suggestion about contacting the local council though, I’ll give that a try. When I spoke to Thames Water they said the rateable value was the rateable value (even if it’s wrong) and were unable to tell me how...

    Shared water supply

Ok, but surely it can’t be right that I have the stop cock inside my house? And they may have a right by prescription to have a supply that comes off of ours (it’s definitely not in the deeds) but they must surely have to have a separate water account? We’re not on good terms with the village...
