Is it a bad idea to join basin waste to rainwater like this..?

I'm redirecting some gutters to go to a soakaway and I've also got some two ground floor basin wastes already going to a soakaway. Can I join them all together so it's ultimately just one pipe going to the soakaway? The only thing that worries me is if the pipe gets backed up higher than the...

Restoring colour of faded UPVC window and door trim

I have some brown UPVC windows and door that have faded quite a lot from sun, what would work to bring most of the colour back? Thanks

What to do when you can't find replacement tiles?

I've got a cracked cloaked verge tile that needs replacing. Problem is, it's a Russell Pennine cloaked verge tile and I cannot find any anywhere. I've tried Redland Groveburys which have a similar profile and are still available, but the profile just doesn't fit. I imagine this situation is...

Crumbly plaster by radiator valve. Pipe leaking in wall?

What filler/plaster would be suitable for contact with copper?

Three gang switch but only two cables, what's going on?

Mine was like that too. Opened it up and thought "wtf is going on here?". Off I went to DIYnot to ask the experts.

Crumbly plaster by radiator valve. Pipe leaking in wall?

The plaster by this rad valve is bulging out and crumbly. My guess is it must be a leak in the pipe to the rad. Any other ideas? It is dry to the touch however and dry powdery plaster seems to fall out

System boiler pressure keeps rising, filler loop letting by?

No it's white, potable. I'm pretty sure it's on a different circuit so won't affect the boiler pressure. I guess it's just coincidence that I pumped that unvented cylinder expansion vessel back up to 3 bar and now the boiler pressure seems to have stabalised.

System boiler pressure keeps rising, filler loop letting by?

@Jurassicspark and @xd400 thanks for the replies. I yesterday realised the expansion vessel for the unvented tank was basically deflated. No wetness from the valve, just seems like I need to replace the leaky valve core. I pumped it up to 3 bar and today after a heating cycle the boiler...

System boiler pressure keeps rising, filler loop letting by?

Got a system boiler with unvented cylinder. Took out some water yesterday when the system was cold to lower the pressure from about 2.7 bar to 1 bar. Today it's back up to about 2.7 bar cold. I assume the filling loop might be leaking?

8 people, 5 bathrooms. What indirect cylinder size and what coil kW rating?

Do you think a one big tank would be the most efficient way of doing it rather than two smaller tanks? I'm just trying to think what the best solution would be as it's roughly 40% of the time 2 people, 40% of the time 4-6 people and 20% 8-10 people. Given the thermostat for the cylinder is near...

8 people, 5 bathrooms. What indirect cylinder size and what coil kW rating?

Looking at getting a new cylinder installed as the current 250l unvented one doesn't recover quickly enough. Sometimes HW demand is low with only a few people, other times it's high with up to 10 people. I think a fast recovery cylinder of similar size would be better than adding another...

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

@Notch7 Forgot to ask too, what control system (Nest, Honeywell etc?) do you use with you Ideal boiler and with weather comp I don't understand if you still use a room thermostat with that or not?

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

It is unvented indirect yes. I'm thinking I really do need a fast recharge actually. 4 bathrooms, I AirBnB it sometimes so can go from 2 people to 10 people. The existing 250 or 300L cylinder seems vastly undersized so changing to DHWP now might mean CH is off too much. Need to rethink.

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

Good point, never thought of it that way. Except mine is in my garage unfortunately!

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

Very helpful, thank you. Is it absolutely necessary to have a high recovery heat cylinder, and what rough heat from cold/recharge time would deem it to be rapid enough? My current 250l cylinder says it has "fast reheat" but the actual spec doesn't seem that fast - 27mins to reheat "from 15°C to...

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

About leaving HW on all the time, does that not waste energy keeping the water in the cylinder at the temp the cylinder stat calls for (60-65C)? So for example when HW isn't really being used during the day then doesn't it waste energy keeping the water hot? or is it basically using the same...

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

Thanks. That's very helpful - I don't know much about boilers. Can you explain DHWP programming and what you mean when you say hot water recovery is 6 minutes? I'm probably wrong but I thought that with DHWP/X plan, if CH is programmed to be on say 5pm-10pm, then HW cannot also be 'on' (or...

Ideal Vogue System Max - what does it mean when it says it's "fully modulating"?

I have an Ideal Vogue Max System 32 boiler with HW cylinder in Y-plan. It's paired with a Boss Therm programmer and basic Danfoss RX thermostat/receiver. I'm looking to get a new thermostat with internet connectivity like Nest for example. I've also been looking at OpenTherm or Weather...

Have I wired my oven correctly?

Just checking. Existing 32A RCBO → 45A isolator → CCU → Oven. Used the existing 6mm² wire (only a few years old), except obviously the flex for the oven. The oven is a small IKEA Lagan that didn't come with a plug and says a minimum fuse of 10A is required. I can't find the kW rating of it...
