    Toilet ventilation

I wouldn't know we have only been in the house for 5 years. In that time we only noticed the smells get bad when we stopped using it and opened up some of the pipework boxing. I do wonder though if sometimes when the house smelt stale was it actually due to the ducting not venting all the way out.

    Toilet ventilation

The toilet has been there since the house was built 25 years ago. We have been doing other renovations and discovered the ducting ends in between the floorboards and ceiling. There is no shower so I don't expect moisture but more worried about the odours. As we've been ripping out some of the...

    Toilet ventilation

For a toilet under the stairs does the ducting vent need to taken outside? Previously the ducting was vented in between the floorboards but looks as if the ducting was cut in the middle and never made it all the way out. Although from the outside it looks like there was a vent and the wall was...

    DIY MDF Skirting

This is what I got after sanding with 240 two coats primer two coats satin top coat. Both water based as that's what I have right now. It's an improvement but still getting some mottling.

Which grit sandpaper did you use and did you only sand the edges? Was it oil based paint you used? Thanks

    DIY MDF Skirting

Would this also be the case if we bought the pre cut primed and ready? We couldn't possibly spray paint them once they are permanently on! I get the whole dust issue in the groove but going over it with a hoover brush should be fine. I know it will always be finicky to paint over but that's the...

    DIY MDF Skirting

Yes the primer was water based. We thought this would be money saving as we are spending a lot of money on other parts of the house. Didn't realise timber was cheaper. After watching many YouTube experiments on MDF it seems the finished look still has a mottled effect. This is essentially the...

    DIY MDF Skirting

P21 grit sanded first then primed then water based paint. Sanded again and painted to test. All seems too time consuming!

    DIY MDF Skirting

We have already cut and routed out moisture resistant MDF for the entire house so thats a lot of sanding, priming, painting etc. Is this a lost cause of a project and should we sling it all and fork out on new readymade skirting and architrave?

    DIY MDF Skirting

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid using anything oil based but may not have a choice. I've been watching some YouTube videos trying to find a sealant of some kind. Wondering if this might work for a better finish? I have already primed then sanded and painted over so this technique didn't seem...

    DIY MDF Skirting

This is an attempt at homemade MDF Skirting. It's the moisture proof MDF that my husband cut himself. I've tried to prime and paint them but was left with a rough finish. The photo shows where I have tested by sanding with sanding machine and painted one coat of satinwood. Even though I've...
