    Artex

I'm in the process of having a hole fixed in my artex ceiling. I'm currently having the material analysed to see if it contains any ASBESTOS as this will determine how the ceiling will be fixed and who's going to do it. I'd rather know if it contains ASBESTOS before I give the job to anyone...

    undercoat

Thanks Zampa :) So you are saying that emulsion will stick onto the plastic even where the old paint has come off?

    undercoat

Any advice on what should be done with plastic conduits before painting them with matt emulsion? They are covered in some old paint, but only partially. I wonder how well matt emulsion paint will stick onto it…? :?:

Repairing a hole in ceiling made of Artex – any options?

Thanks for your reply. :) I bought the property three years ago. Had a look at the survey report and there’s nothing mentioned about the ceiling material potentially containing asbestos. They just mention that the ceiling is made of plasterboards. I think I’ll phone this first guy who...

In my bathroom there is a 3-4 mm gap between the skirting board and the floor tiles. Should I use caulk to fill in this gap? J

Repairing a hole in ceiling made of Artex – any options?

Forgot to mention that the actual whole is about 50 cm long and 15 cm wide at its widest. It is about 30 cm from the side. For redoing the whole ceiling I was quoted over £1000…! J

Repairing a hole in ceiling made of Artex – any options?

Thanks for you replies! :) The artexed ceiling is area 220 cm x 310 cm, i.e. 6.82 square meters (or 73.41 square ft, if you prefer imperial). The leakage was on the longer side of the ceiling and a patch of 80 cm x 180 cm would cover is easily, so there isn’t really need to redo the...

    undercoat

I have a similar question related to what undercoat I should use… I have stripped off the old painted wallpaper in the living room walls. Underneath there was a white paint – not sure what type – that has partially come off. The plaster is in relatively good condition apart from some small...

Removing old grout between bathroom floor tiles

Thanks Nestor for your very thorough instructions. I posted my desperate cry for help before reading other posts about removing old grout and after reading them I realised what an uneasy task I had set up myself to do…! I have used grout pen before but the result was very superficial and...

Thanks Zampa, That helps me to make up my mind. I’ll give it a go with matt. But let’s wait and see first what kind of wall is under the wallpaper… Cheers :) J

Repairing a hole in ceiling made of Artex – any options?

Hi all, There is a whole in my bedroom ceiling caused by a leakage through a flat roof. The roof itself has been completely renovated since then. The ceiling is made of Artex and the same material has been used in all other rooms. I’ve heard that Artex applied prior to mid 70s may...

Removing old grout between bathroom floor tiles

Hi all, I’ve got a nice tile floor in the bathroom, but the grout is old (probably as old as the floor, i.e. from 1970) and needs freshening up. What is the easiest way to remove the old grout between floor tiles? I’ve seen someone recommend a patio cleaner – does this work? What tools...

    Silk or matt emulsion paint?

Hi all, I’m in the process of painting my living room walls. There is currently old wallpaper there that has been painted over, so this needs to be stripped off first. I don’t know in what condition the plaster is under it, but as the house was built in 1970, I’d expect it to be in...
