What wire on exterior house for lighting?

Wonder why they don’t make brown/brick coloured wire tbh

What wire on exterior house for lighting?

Sounds a bit overkill tbh Will this do, can’t see this HITIF at Screwfix...

What wire on exterior house for lighting?

Perfect, it’s north facing and large hedge adjacent to it’s never in sunlight, also what gauge is best i‘m assuming 1.5mm is fine? Or is 2.5 the way to go?

What wire on exterior house for lighting?

Just moved house and there are 4x elderly CFL exterior lights on the side of my house to illuminate the side path, all running through galv conduit. all the lights are broken/rusted, the bulbs have clearly long since blown. I want to replace the setup and remove the conduit as it’s bloody...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Yep totally, better to be safe then sorry! Though I was at the stage that I think I had genuinely exhausted every other possible Avenue. unsure what tests to run to make sure it is now correctly wired up, as the tub is working, and wiring is now running through 2x rcds (both of which work, and...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Yep well aware, but frankly I was reaching end of my patience and didn’t want to shell out yet another call out fee, for what, after much chat here, very much Indictated a swapped N&E wire!

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Connected up as shown. See image (black is now correctly wired to EARTH terminal in tub, Grey now to Neutral in tub, and brown to LINE 2 = Live in tub as it should be) my multimeter is completely busted, but I remembered I had a simple pen tester (one of the ones that beeps rapidly and flashes...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Ok, I have a breakthrough! It works! I swapped downstream N and E (which appear to be in corrected labelled) and everything now works as it should I think as you all had cleverly determined, in essence there was a double issue of N and E being incorrectly wired at TUB (error 1) AND N and E...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Does this not also indicate that indeed it likely downstream N and E wires are incorrectly labelled and require reversing?

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

I know my limits and opening up a multi-fuse CU is where I draw the line I think, not confident in opening it up etc so will wait for Tuesday when I have a proper electrician round to examine it. I’m hoping it’s just as simple as the N and E being wrong way round, my concern is if it is indeed...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

So in effect, it may be worth assuming the N and E wires coming from the main CU are in fact incorrectly labelled and are in reverse. I guess I’ll try wiring these up the other way round as they are currently and see if this solves anything

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Well indeed, I did think this, I thought hmm the live has been bypassed ok, but the Neutral definitely hasn’t… shouldn’t the switch when flipped turn off the tub? But nope nothing Makes me think, perhaps if the N and E are reversed up stream this would mean in fact currently it’s just the...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

My multimeter is not working sigh, so can’t check this currently which is a pain. I have an electrician who is coming Tuesday to fully check it as the hot tub guys are apparently ‘not trained in electrics’ which is somewhat unfathomable but anyway… I think the most likely outcome is N and E...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Yep thick blue goes behind RCD into bottom right (it came wired as such) hot tub Mai trance guy came round and can’t fathom it, he thinks it’s possibly the circuit board, or maybe transformer that’s on the circuit board but cant figure it out as it basically shopulent be working, but clearly...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Yep exactly, so they are swapped from the RCD to the tub

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Nope I mean the 40Amp. (which is adjacent to tub) when connected up as in Theory it ‘should‘ be (ie live through the 40A RCD and Neutral to N, Live to LINE 2 and Earth to earth it trips…. if I connect it back up to how it was when I found it (ie bypassing the local 40Amp, but still on the B32...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Thanks John, and yes you are bang on. I inherited the current tub set-up which has been in situ for years (over a decade in fact) filled with water switched on and bobs your uncle it works a treat. It’s only as frankly I tinker with things and I’m nosy that I even bothered to check the tub fuse...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Have connected up RCD and wired in how the wires are supposed to be and it is indeed tripping, so I’m guessing a fault somewhere in the tub circuitry, which is odd as it appears to be functioning perfectly. I’ll get a sparks round to investigate, seems very odd as it’s working perfectly and...

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Thanks Bernard, that’s one issue solved. Switch will now function! Looks like now just need to swap black (Earth) and grey (Neutral) and then move Brown (live) to LINE 2 instead of LINE 1

Hot tub tripping, but also working… crossed Neutral?

Found this diagram handily on reverse of tub panel…. appears that brown LINE 1 wire should indeed actually be in LINE 2 socket, maybe this is causing the trip as it’s mistakenly trying to 2x16amp power and causing issues?
