    "Fake" two-way light

Hi! I want my upstairs light to be two-way because it's a pain switching on the upstairs light, going downstairs, the nnot being able to switch it off, but renovations have just finished and it will now be impossible to wire. I am currently trying to replace all my switches to smart switches...

Powering smart "switch" from existing switch.

Hi Eric, thanks for the info! that was useful! so basically, I can switch my lights on/off via alexa, but my wife insists on a physical button for guests etc. I explained a bit about what I am after to Mottie's post above, but essentially, I want to permanently power the second gang of a...

Powering smart "switch" from existing switch.

Hi Mottie, so for shelf, closet and stair tread mini LED's, they are just connected to mains via a smart plug. I can switch them off via alexa, but my wife insists on a physical button. I was thinking of just adding an extra batt-powered button on the wall, but if I am buying/replacing all the...

Powering smart "switch" from existing switch.

Hi! The store I am buying my smart switches from claims that I can do a false 2nd gang switch by without needing extra wiring to a light, but just tapping into power from the existing light switch. I was wondering if anyone knew how I would go about wiring this. I have made a diagram to explain...

Urgent! Is this doorframe load bearing ? (Clear picture above it)

Can someone tell me how I can tell if this doorframe is load bearing? 1. Can I remove the blocks and just plasterboard (does the hoist above need the blocks?) and also, can I also remove the header wood? this is the second floor and above is a loft.

    Is this possible?

It's a standard two storey house so the topmost habitable room starts at 2.4m above ground, ends at around 4.8m

    Is this possible?

oh okay! That makes me feel a lot more confident moving forward with this! Is there anything wrong with 'detaching' an internal wall that was previously attached/butt-joint to the external wall? (in terms of stbility)

Oops. A beam attached to the wall?

    Is this possible?

Hi everyone. So I made the mistake of removing a wooden doorframe and it turns out there are lapped joists above and no lintel. This is an internal block wall. Question: I would love to open up and expand the entryway completely, back to the exterior wall, BUT I don't want to call in a...

Oops. A beam attached to the wall?

Question though, are all load bearing door frames H shaped? Because this wasn't. Hence why I am. even more confused on why it would be holding lapped joists

Oops. A beam attached to the wall?

Yes, more traditional layout . The wall continues up into a bedroom wall. It's a two storey house. Not too fussed about budget, I just can't for the life of me figure out how this could work with some basic knowledge I have.
