The little black tabs really refuse to come out. It's a Frigidaire FPID2498SF. I also checked the installation instructions and they make no reference to them at all.

Yeah, that's something I could try. I really think the water is only coming from that gap. When I look at all the areas on the inside that are all siliconed it's the only place I simply can't cover. I was hoping people had some kind of idea of what to try.

It does join firmly but you still get that one inch gap between the hinge pole and the start of the blade. It's very hard to water protect this.

Yes, they are siliconed where the tile meets the tub. I think this was a tub only that they then later on decided to add a shower to at some point. So the initial installation probably never planned for water showering from a height. Here's a photo of the whole thing...
