    Thanks gents, much appreciated. I think I'll be creating an opening of some description, so will put in a support when doing so. Just wanted to make sure the whole thing isn't going to fall down when I remove those breeze blocks! They don't look like they are doing much.

    Thanks guys. Ordered a asbestos kit just to be on the safe side. I think this bad boy is a good 100 years old - still had no lid on it.
