    Wiring of light switch

An electrician wired it for our extension but I was trying to save a bit of cash by installing the lights and wiring the switch myself as I thought it' be a straight forward one but it appears maybe not to be the case. With the lights I'm just placing the blues together in one hole and the...

    Wiring of light switch

Hi Mikey, I tried the above but sadly the light isn't working. You are right about the lights not being fitted yet. I fitted one today so I was hoping to test the switch on the one light first but no show as yet.

The earth wires have already been secured in the back plate switch housing. My question is do I place the 3 brown wires into...

Yes this is correct although the light on the left has x 2 of the wires you are showing as it also feeds to the light on the right.

Newly fitted light switches trip the breaker. (Ed.)

Yes the other cable goes to the other light. The two lights each have a switch beneath them so that someone can access the switch from either side of the bed.

Hi Adam, in terms of the connection to the fitting. There are two brown wires in one hole, two blue in another and two earths in the third hole. They are doubled up as the lamp also connects to another identical lamp further along the wall

Newly fitted light switches trip the breaker. (Ed.)

I’ll take some pictures and post them. Basically I connected the live wire to the top of the switch unit (labelled 2) the neutral I connected to bottom left of the switch unit ( labelled 1) then with the earth I connected that to the screw that is on the metal front plate of the switch. As I...

Newly fitted light switches trip the breaker. (Ed.)

Hi, I have two wall lights in a bedroom. I am currently fitting the switches. There are to be two switches one under each light. When I began to fit the first switch, I connected the wires to the switch unit and the lights came on. But when I go to switch off the light switch it trips the fuse...
