    Water butt pressure pump?

Thanks guys. Can I ask, would the Draper and the Einhell supply sufficient pressure for 1/2 inch hose do you think? I can't easily tap off the well pump as it's operated by float switch in the attic.

    Water butt pressure pump?

Just to clarify. Yes, we are on well water. The house has a pressure pump for upstairs and all showers, but the rest of the cold water is gravity from the tank in the loft which is where the outside tap is connected to. This is just too low for the long hose our large garden needs. I've looked...

    Water butt pressure pump?

We live in a dorma, and the gravity feed downstairs is adequate for the house, but no good for a long hose.

    Water butt pressure pump?

We have gravity fed cold water downstairs which is adequate, but the outside tap is in the garage some way away. Using a connected hose is obviously next to useless for most tasks. So I thought about linking a few butts together and installing a pump. That was until I looked...I just want a...

    Mortar raking advice needed

No, I'm not doing anything until I take a good look up there and feedback. It may be a week or so though depending on the scaffold. I'll restart this thread and maybe pm you if that's ok?

    Mortar raking advice needed

You know what, I will give it a try. Maybe the safer option and I can at least rule it out before I try one of the grown up toys!

    Mortar raking advice needed

@ree the stringy stuff is just cobwebs from under the lifted tiles. Do you mean the lead is not a single sheet? I'll get the scaffold put up and then come back with some better pics. But the reason I don't suspect the flashing is because heavy rain does not produce and leaks. It's only when the...

I presume he meant blood! Why not use 9" on false stone? But I guess the 9" is the only option I have

    Mortar raking advice needed

No, the main issue with the pointing is behind the chimney and at the top. I've seen the pics from the roofers who have been up there, but can't send my own until the scaffolding is up. But there are sections with some nasty cracks with 3-4mm gaps. Attached is a pic one of the roofers sent me...

    Mortar raking advice needed

It's deceptive I've tried lol! I don't like red stains but may have to take the risk. There are some nasty cracks in the mortar. The rest is rock hard. Probably a 3-1 mix.

    Mortar raking advice needed

Ree, I appreciate your clear feedback. We've had two guys round to see it, and one lifted the tiles around the back and reported all was well. But they both said the issue was the pointing. I saw some of their pics and the cracks did seem quite bad. The quotes they came back with were stupid...

    Mortar raking advice needed

Yeah sorry a pic would help - see attached. I did wonder about a 100mm attachment for the grinder, but still not sure it would go deep enough and I'm not too comfortable about putting a lot of lateral load on the tool. It will be fully scaffolded with two platforms so access is good, but I just...

    Mortar raking advice needed

So I need to set to and repair the mortar on out very leaky chimney. Haunching and flashing looks solid, but some of the pointing is quite badly cracked. I was going to use a 115mm rake on my grinder, but it's uneven stonework which is so proud I can't get the wheel in. So looking into grabbing...

    Private water DIY help needed

I guess as you say there is no right or wrong as long as the correct procedure is followed for either setup. But I'm following your advice. I'll also add a fly/rodent screen to my tanks for peace of mind. On another note, I just spent the entire afternoon doing what should have been an easy job...

Contradict away Rob. I'm no expert for sure. But I do know Filpumps would always go well to storage, then filter to house which is what they did for me on a new installation a few years ago at a different house, and were shocked to see this setup. The correct UV should zap pretty much anything...

    Private water DIY help needed

Thanks for your input Simon, really appreciate the time and thought that you gave cheers! With both of your opinions coming at the same angle, I may well now concentrate of sealing and insulating the existing setup. In truth, we've been here a year and have come to no harm. The cold water...

    Private water DIY help needed

Cheers Rob, I may not have been clear. The water would be stored in the tanks direct from the well, then when demanded, would go through the filters including the UV cleaning any bugs, so the UV is the last treatment before the taps. I take your idea about correctly insulating the storage tanks...

    Private water DIY help needed

Thanks for the reply Rob. So the deal at the moment is an odd setup. We moved in last year to find the well water was sent through a filter, then a ph correction and then through the UV but then sent to the holding tank where is was free to pick up anything that found it's way into it! The...

    Private water DIY help needed

I'm not a first time poster here, but it's been a while and I can't find the correct login details! I'm in Scotland in a rural property and have a well water feed. Finding a plumber here is next to impossible - seriously. So I'm left with no alternative than to attempt a much needed revamp of...
