Do I need radiator under triple glazed window?

I'm having a rethink. Can't bear being cold and know I'll kick myself if I sacrifice efficiency for style in the depths of winter! Had a look at the Stelrad type 22 radiators and on the 1600s the BTU is 9457 so that definitely works out a bit oversized for both rooms downstairs.

Do I need radiator under triple glazed window?

I do have a dehumidifier so could employ that if needs be. Just don't want to cause a problem where there wasn't one before.

Do I need radiator under triple glazed window?

Madrab, what's the main issue with the column radiatiors? I'm not looking at the tall designer style ones, but the reproduction cast iron style ones. My rooms aren't massive but taking on board what you're saying, I really don't want to struggle to heat them.

Do I need radiator under triple glazed window?

Hi Notch7, This is the spec for their units and below their glass spec. Does it sound reasonable? I'm completely naive with glazing so just want to make sure I'm not ordering duds.

Do I need radiator under triple glazed window?

Hi all again, I'm planning on moving my radiator site to a side wall away from under the room window. Two reasons: 1. Wanting to build a window seat and not wanting to block the heat from the radiator with it. 2. Having a new window fitted above where the old radiator is that's triple glazed...

    Externally beaded double glazing quandry

Thanks Notch7 and Blup. That's put my mind to rest a lot. I'm going to have a cast around see if I can find a good replacement unit place to get some quotes from.

    Externally beaded double glazing quandry

Hi all, The house we just moved into has double glazed windows that are in great condition, even though they are a few years old. Some of the DG units are misted so could do with replacing but the frames themselves are spot on. Unfortunately the beading is external which is obviously more of a...

    Altering wrought iron gates

Well thank you everyone for all the amazing replies..really do appreciate it. I spoke to 2 local metalworks to get a price to reweld the gate edges back on. The first one basically told me to sod off..he wasn't interested in altering something bought elsewhere..blah blah..he makes gates and it...

    Altering wrought iron gates

Hi John, Would the hook and band hinges work on a wrought iron gate? I'm not sure where they'd fasten to. Think I could dig a smallish metal post into the fence side if I avoid where the concrete posts are. The drive is very old tarmac that's gonna need replacing in the next year or so...

    Altering wrought iron gates

There's nothing at the moment John. Side of house on one side and neighbours waney edge fence panels on the other side (could move to a concrete fence post position but he might not like me fastening to it maybe).

    Altering wrought iron gates

I've no posts at the moment and definitely would like the adjustment on the gates symmetrical. :giggle:

    Altering wrought iron gates

Apologies, 198cm is the full width so post space would come off that. Pretty sure I didn't say what I meant to say on the last post :ROFLMAO:.

    Altering wrought iron gates

They are lovely aren't they . I like that they are chunky monkeys and in great condition too. The actual gap they need to fit is 198cm (that's not including room for posts though) and each gate is 106cm so I'll have to figure out the post thickness then whatever's left to come off I guess.

Thanks so much for the advice. I wasn't sure at all but that's really helped a lot. Here's a pic of the full gate.

    Altering wrought iron gates

Hi all, Can't afford brand new gates for my very slim driveway (6 foot) but have seen some very nice quality wrought iron gates at a great price secondhand. They're slightly too big so I wondered how feasible it would be to chop a bit off each gate and reattach the end thicker posts with the...
