1930's, this is internal partition wall and to the right is external cavity wall. I want to make sure the wood still serves the purpose which I'm assuming is attaching the internal wall to the external one hence the question about what to repoint it with without affecting the wood in the long term.

Hi all, Would you know how to proceed in here? I have some old wood "lintel/brace" that needs repointing and I am unsure how to bond it to the surrounding brick. I'm worried that using sand and cement will cause the wood to rot in the long run. What would use? Thanks!!
