These are very old pipe, they are not the usual copper pipe. Looks like the joints are screwed together instead of solder or compression. These are the pipe fitted by the water supply company. I am not sure what plumber would even take on that job and where they would route the pipe. Also...

The board is against the wall...most of the cables enter at top and some at the bottom. No cables from rear

Actually it's more like pathetic. It was done 18 years ago. I was young and just bought the house and had the property gutted and rewired same time. It's a plastic board with square knockouts so not possible to fit cable glands.

Thats the mains water pipe..maybe done by the water company. The plumbers works started after the tap valve.

I think the sparky must have attached the labels while the cover was off and got confused which side up.

Appreciate your reply. It was even more mess until I changed the old meter tails with new flexi tails. Currently all the earth cables are 16mm. If the new block option is on the table i shall do that and leave the cables as 16mm

Hello all Just trying to tidy these earth cables as they seem to be all over the place and not very secure. There is a 4 way earth block near the cutout that connects the main supply earth wire so thats where 2 wires in the picture feed down to. Currently setup as following... Gas pipe bonding...

So could pass £1k for updating this to 18th edition. So even more reason to scrap the idea...if it aint broke then nothing to fix. Best to leave it until if/when myself or the next owner of house gets a EV charger. The meter fitter also mentioned to get a recommended sparky, otherwise some will...

The tails are pretty bad..now that I have a switch and access cover will get some flexi tails via the bottom of the CU and seal the opening at top behind by current tails. Strange thing the main fuse was only 60Amp and the cables on the meter only 16mm. The fitter said he won't upgrade the...

Just an update. SMS metering turned up. Initially they said the switch is a seperate job and will need to booked by the supplier. After a quick call to SMS office the switch was installed. SMS do fit the switch free of charge :giggle:

I am happy to provide the sparky brand new retail parts from online retails by shopping around for best price and take responsibilty if any of the new part is faulty. People do that with car mechanics. The garage don't shop for good deals so customer will find same premium brands parts but...
